Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Fair enough, I still think it was pretty obvious it was coming though :(

Glad I stayed on Go/Tracker, even though they are a little more expensive than the capped rates.

Actually, overall, Go works out slightly cheaper with the night rate, and the gas tracker prices have been well below the cap all month :)

Winter 2023/4 is going to really suck though :(

Which plan is the gas one, I am on Flexible Octopus which says its a market tracker but always seems to show the same price

That's a good point actually I'm on a fix that is 2p over the EPG so was going to move to the SVR but could never get through on the phone but now the SVR is likely to go up a lot higher than 2p...

He is wrong, new nuclear is planned and some already under construction, more wind power is coming on all the time, more solar. The issue is things take time so in the short term not much can be done.
1 is being built, just 1 - the rest got cancelled when the countries pulled out.

Interesting, how do you know about and keep track of it please? And was that nuclear power plant planned before the Ukraine war?

It's the Gas Tracker - the rates change daily based on the wholesale cost of gas, and you need a smart meter for it. Mine is capped at 16p/kWh, so it's a bit of a gamble really - while the gov. cap is in place I could be paying up 50% more, but when I signed up it was only 1p more than the predicted prices for October, and 3p less than the predictions for January. So far it has paid off - you can see the rates here: http://mysmartenergy.uk/Tracker/West-Midlands (iirc the last time it was above the gov. cap was middle of September!)

Shortly before the gov. cap was announced, they increased the cap to 22p/kWh, which made it quite a bit less attractive, and unfortunately it looks like they've pulled it completely for now.

So what's being planned/constructed in the UK right now to alleviate the gas supply issues?

I hear there's a load of hot air and dead wood in Westminster we could make use of?

You can read more here https://www.gov.uk/government/news/...building,and provide 25,000 job opportunities.

UK is also a world leader in wind power and has approved a lot more. Sure it isn't 'always on' but better to plug the gaps with Gas rather than rely on it. https://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/en...wind-in-major-milestone-for-renewable-energy/

Great thanks, I'll have a read. Not quite as much of a shambles as I first thought in terms of planning ahead

We keep breaking our own world record for wind farm size. We broke it again last month. There’s huge investment going into fossil fuel alternatives.
I hope this will be done shortly my electric company just infor me about my contract ending next march and will be price increse from 25pKh to 85pKw OMG. For me is only one option next year shut business down or miracle.

Thanks, I cant see anything similar so maybe it was pulled before my switch back was completed.
Thing is flexible says "prices follow wholesale costs", and yet they never seem to move
Might not help that they still have me down as having 2 meters, maybe thats upsetting stuff
