Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Will be around £500 in credit with Ovo shortly. Nearly done insulating the loft, switched to 90% air fryer cooking and dropped heating to 18.5 so hopefully slightly less pain than it would have been.

18 is far too cold for me. 22-23 here.
23 is too warm for me ideally...... at work we have temp wars in our offices. i would happily run at 18 degrees with a jumper on (not with aircon to get it there of course) but as soon as it goes over 21 i start to get sleepy. at one point it was 27 degrees a few months back and that was horrendous.

Personally i think a good base temp to aim for with all other things equal and no energy crisis is 20 degrees....... its warm enough that even nesh southerners should be ok with a jumper on, and tough northern vikings should be able to cope with it that warm too ;)

Was supposed to have had a smart meter fitted today, but it seems Eon have ballsed up somewhere, the electric meter got changed fine, but they're claiming they can't change the gas as they're not listed as being responsible for it. Which seems logically daft considering I'm paying them for the usage of it.

23 is insane and a waste of energy. 20-21c is called room temp for a reason, that's the only reasonable figure for most people.

Also, I will always PAYG. To hell with DDs.

Really odd as they are usually changed in pairs

Since they aren't responsible for it ask for a full refund of all money you've paid them. See what their reaction to that is.

Well they’ve switched us to the variable DD. Thanks for the tip! Should work well combined with the smart meter that sends them actual readings. Plus we’ve got our £300 credit back.

Need to setup similar on our holiday home.

How much did the AC cost to run this year?

Only cost us about £100-150 for the whole house, keeping in mind we have over two months of the summer off work. Not bad at all tbh.

We were supposed to have ours fitted on the 11th October but as soon as the guy came he said the system was down and he can only change the electric meter although it will only work in dumb mode as it needs a module added to it. He said someone else will be around to make it smart, fit the gas smart meter and supply and set up the IHD. I contacted Eon at the begining of last week to find out when this will be happening and am still waiting for a reply. What a joke, I wish I didn't bother.

Between British Gas and Octopus I've had 3 electric and 3 smart meters fitted and still not got all issues sorted out.

Soft southern fairy here, throughout October don't think it's really been under 20C inside, had windows open a lot as well still. Not used the heating this month so far.

Oct 12th was lowest at 19.87C.

That’s a quarter of my projected energy costs for the year.

How do you use so little? I think combined gas/electric we’re down to about £90 a month on our main home. That’s as low as I can get it with most things off. Even our 1 bed apartment that we only use on weekends uses £45 a month.

This warm weather combined with a few jumpers has helped us keep the heating off. Won’t be turning it on for more than upstairs, in the morning and 18C when it does go on initially.

We have solar panels and a battery which helps a lot. We pay next to nothing during the summer/sunnier months and off peak electricity during the winter/darker months.

Between 0.30 and 7.00 our unit cost is 10p per kWh, we charge the battery up using that then turn battery off until it ends at 7am. From then on it runs off the battery until the next off peak period. During the summer we charge very little if at all and run off the solar.
