Energy Suppliers

Anyone who was with GNE, confirmed they are loved to EDF. I've not heard anything for ages.
I'm in the same boat and I've not heard a dicky bird since the announcement via MSE Cheap Energy Club on 23rd Feb. Nothing whatsoever from EDF and I've just checked bank and GNE took another DD yesterday!

wth eh.

I'm going to cancel that DD now until I can work out what the hell I should be doing and if I can switch.

Another GNE here, had an email from EDF but no account info. Going to cancel my DD too I think as I’m not sure they won’t **** it up.

I had one email from EDF and said don't cancel DD. But like you, I'm still paying GNE.
Should all be covered and I won't loose it, just seems very slow

In early 2018, Scottish Power gave me a smart meter. During the visit, an engineer spent about an hour modifying the 2 meters outside my house then issued me with a small dashboard that I keep in the house. It runs off a standard USB port.

If I switched providers from Scottish Power later this year, I imagine the dashboard will get bricked but will the modified outside meters still work?

The dashboard should work still, at least in terms of showing you how much you are using. The cost per unit stuff might get wiped though.

I have a dashboard thing even though I've changed suppliers twice since, it still tells me how many kwh of electric and gas I've used and what the current values are.

Thanks dude :-)

I'll take the plunge when my Scottish Power contract is up in 3 months time.

What sites are you all using for comparison / changeovers? Previously I used U-Switch and they did all of the work for me: that is to cancel with British Gas and move over to Scottish Power.

Is Quidco an option? I use them to change mobile providers every year and get cashback, and again, they do the work for me, cancelling the old provider and setting up the new one.

Do people just switch because one supplier says they will take £xx DD a month over £yy from another supplier? I only switch if the unit rate and the standing charge are less. Not because of a DD price war.

I switch when the unit rate and standing charge works out less than I am currently paying as it's the best way to compare like for like. I never go by DD cost or so called yearly cost which almost always is way out from what I actually use.

I only switch if I calculate myself I might be better off elsewhere. I find some of the comparisons sites and even suppliers themselves frustrating sometimes as I just want to see the raw figures (unit price and standing charge),not input how much gas and electric I've used over the past year, which may or may not be indicative of future usage for me. Been with the same supplier for 3+ years now. Needs to be a decent amount or a change of use to justify moving suppliers as I can't be bothered otherwise :).
I use an EV now so am looking at possibly changing soon, but as I'm using the car a few times a week for short journeys, for now I'll probably just keep to same supplier.

Orbit Energy showing up cheap for electricity (12.1p per kWh, 24.996p per day standing). Has anyone here used them? I'm a high electricity user so they could save me quite a bit compared to what I'm currently paying (15.052p per kWh and 22.2p per day standing). Google reviews doesn't look too promising but I know they don't really paint the full picture.

What are you classifying as high usage?

Just go with whoever is cheapest, its not like you'll ever have disruption to service regardless. Worst case you switch away and cut the direct debit to them, then pay their written bill demand when the account closes.

I'm still stuck in the GNE to EDF transfer. I did get some good news yesterday though - Top Cash Back paid me £22 for switching to GNE despite them going bust before I'd received the cash back.
