I already give monthly readings always have. I thought that was the norm.
Im in the process of a change to peoples energy, was considering orbit as mentioned above but their trust pilot reviews are absolutely horrible, whilst 3p per KWH (on elec) is significantly lower than anyone else on the market I am not sure I am convinced of their viability considering how bad their reviews are
3p p/KWH is unsustainable even short term, they will be bust in a year, no wonder they don't answer the phone, overheads would outweigh the profit.
I'm starting to think about a smart meter, getting a bit bored of grubbing about trying to read my gas meter, which is on the ground.Yep, if you want cheep energy you need to give frequent readings. It's a way of pushing people to have a smart meter.

There will never be a stand alone gas smart meter you cannot hard wire electricity to a gas meter far too much risk involved if part of th installation became live. If it was battery powered you would have to change the battery every couple of days!!! A smart meter is essentially a mobile phone sending text messages.Yup, the only gripe I have with smart meters is that the gas one isn't suitable for my property which is annoying. The gas meter is on the opposite side of the property and the interconnect doesn't reach the electric meter with the phone connection Until they design a standalone gas meter, I'm still having to do manual readings. The electric is all automatic as you'd expect though and its not really a fault of the smart meter as such, I'm just one of those few % where the gas isn't located near the electric.
They don't need to ask when transfer under supplier failure that's why you should not have canceled the DD.FINALLY received an email from EDF on the back of GNE going pop! Looks like they'll attempt the DD transfer before asking I set it back up again.
The issue I have is that "they" were unknown. Zero communication from the incumbent supplier or the incoming supplier. I was only aware of the change to EDF through MSE energy club, who as far as I'm aware do not act as a customer service outlet for the energy companies. They don't need to ask when transfer under supplier failure that's why you should not have canceled the DD.
That doesn’t explain why you cancelled it? Seems a silly thing to have done if you ask me.The issue I have is that "they" were unknown. Besides; hardly an inconvenience to setup another DD is it.

I got caught up in the Economy Energy farce, the stress and time spent trying to get them to pay me money they owed me both before and after they collapsed made me think twice about ever going with a 'too good to be true' company based on a low price.
Your balance moves to the new supplier, there shouldn’t be any stress about it. Consumers are protected by the regulator so there is little or no risk. It’s one of the ‘costs’ built into everyone’s supply, just like ‘green deal’, smart meters and reducing the cost for people on low incomes etc. None of that stuff is free at the end of the day.
I would have and was expecting some correspondence, from the supplier/s, outlining the process and next steps. I received none so thought I'd cancel the DD as it did not seem appropriate to continue paying dosh in to a failed company month after month. That doesn’t explain why you cancelled it? Seems a silly thing to have done if you ask me.
You would have had contact from GNE, Offgem, and EDF it's Regulatory requirement.I would have and was expecting some correspondence, from the supplier/s, outlining the process and next steps. However, I'll accept silly; I love being silly.
