Energy Suppliers

Switch exclusive I think, used whichever switching website. Existing customers get the worst deals.

British Gas wanted to charge me more than standing charge to stay with them, and wouldn't even believe the unit rates on the plan I switched too and straight up said I must be mistaken, no plan could currently be that cheap.

So as I'm an E.ON customer, I can't get your deal? Uswitch isn't even bringing the E.ON Next tariff up. I'll call them tomorrow anyway, maybe I can persuade them to put me on your tariff.

Prices vary by provider by postcode. Eon may be cheap in one area but it doesn’t mean it will be in another. There are lots of variables in the underlying price like distribution costs which change how much you pay.

Looking at unit costs from posters on here is pointless unless you live in the same area.

That's true. Still, they were able to offer me very low unit and standing rates on my current tariff, and much like when I call virgin media to cancel when they whack their prices up and then they give me the price I want, I hope I can get E.ON to do the same. Worth a try anyway! :D

Like durrr:

Location: Finchley Central, London

London most expensive.

Confidently incorrect

No actually, you WILL end up paying more if you go straight onto a fix with any CURRENT provider.

You need to get your current usage readings and switch for the best offers. You will end up paying less by switching.

Literally moneysavingexpert's 101 guide to getting the cheapest prices.

Also funny you think I'm incorrect when so many people here won't even believe how little I pay for my utilities.

I also stated 'general advice', not that anyone has to take what I said as fact. Google search a switching guide and follow what it says, most of them say what I said.

You dont need to wait, just switch the supply immediately to someone like Symbio (cheapest here in Oxon currently, 12p/KWH and 10p/day standing) and guide the DD with them using your expected usage.

How long after moving into a new house should I expect to receive a welcome letter from the current supplier?

We got ours after about 10 days, but we'd already knew which provider we'd be changing to, so just called them and started the switch after the first week. There was some tooing and froing due to the previous occupants meter readings being way of though.

Thing is, I have no idea who the supplier currently is.

Ot should have been in one of the documents the seller has to fill in about the house which should have been forwarded to your solicitor and the on to you.

You should have also taken meter readings on the day. Do them immediately if you haven’t already.

There’s no need to wait to switch, unless something has changed substantively your usage will be pretty similar. It’s only the heating that may materially change after moving but it’s not like that’s on at the moment anyway. Waiting 3 months this is pointless and will just cost you more.

Cheers, I took readings on move in day and have submitted them to the supplier. I’ll have a look around for someone to switch to.
