If i recall Bulb needed someone to plough more money in for further investment. I suspect that never happened, or they couldn't secure enough for what they need to ride the storm, ergo going bankrupt.

I think there's still quite a few smaller players in the market who are hanging on. So probably not surprising that "there will be more blood".

Feels inevitable. Like absolutely no surprise due to forcing companies to run at a loss

Pretty sure Utility Warehouse are overcharging us currently, we’re on a prepayment meter (we moved in a few months ago and they keep screwing up new meter install) and the unit rate is 28.??p per kWh. Thats surely above the cap from what I can tell?!

Not on any sort of special tariff either to fix rates. It’s frustrating, every time I ring them about getting new meters it’s like a 30min+ hold time :o

edit: just seen the cap numbers don’t include VAT so it’s likely that!

So if SAR is being deployed that means.. We are all (tax payers) going to be paying the energy cap anyway. As no big providers are going to accept this burden.

Here.. Take these money losing customers.
Oh, you can't charge market rate either.

Oh great, do I still submit readings as normal or is that pointless now and it gets sorted once whoever it is takes over?

The recommendation is still to submit your readings as normal. I'm still submitting mine to Pure Planet even though they've gone and it's in the process of transferring to Shell Energy. Doesn't look like it's a quick process, but that's not really an issue.

I was speaking to an Octopus engineer the other week and he felt they should be fine. Lots of other profitable arms in the Octopus group which enables them to keep afloat.

Octopus took an extra payment this month, I am now roughly 4 months of service in credit (this is after they took off from my higher meter reading). Before I was about 7 months in credit. They seem to be targeting around half a year in credit.

I'm with Bulb :(

Is it worth starting a move to someone like Octopus Energy now?

Leave everything as it is. Don't change supplier and don't cancel your direct debit

Submit a meter reading to Bulb today and tomorrow and every week after that. Hopefully the new supplier will accept the readings and you won't have any surprise bills.

Also take screenshots of your Bulb account, in particular where your bills, balance, meter readings, meter serial numbers are shown. Keep them updated as and when they update, for example of your new meter readings or when a payment is being taken.

I have to admit, I've been sceptical about putting my heating on since my suppler, Utility Point, went down the pan. But I've been submitting regular readings and have been very cautious with my heating. I hope that this way I will minimise any massive bills, thanks to my new energy prices that EDF are yet to inform me about. :(
