OK, I have a dilemma.
I have sat down looked at things, and being realistic and sensible, I have decided to cut my engine budget back as I have other commitments coming up (holiday etc.) I won't be spending 4k, it'll be closer to 2.5k.
I've spoken to 'Perrymoo' and he says he can still make my B20 work brilliantly with that budget, he suggests a set of his custom cams, a custom inlet menifold, some headwork and then of course tuning and mapping. This would give me, and I quote, "A lovely big fat usable powerband, with a nice area under the curve", and about 210bhp. This would make a very nice road/track car with really nice usable reliable power.
I was all set on doing that, but then I came across this thread (contains some swearies):
http://www.superhonda.com/forum/f9/boost-stock-internals-need-read-326359/
Particularly these quotes:
I have been speaking to somebody who has loads of experience with boosted B-Series motors and he said a similar thing, that it'll be fine up to around 300whp. He recommends that I fit a GSR crank girdle though, and I would probably chuck a block guard in there to. I would do all this myself, and I have looked round and can get a genuine Garrett T04E 50T and everything else reqiured for well under my budget, so I'll have plenty left for the mapping.
I put this plan to Perry and he thinks I'm mad, and the engine wont last....
As I pointed out above though, it has been done before and they have lasted..
So here's my dilemma, I don't know which way to go. Of course the sensible option would be to go with the reliable 200ish bhp with a nice usable fat powerband, but I really fancy some boosted VTEC action at the moment
N/A tuning:
+ Reliable.
+ Everyday usable power.
+ Hastle free, I wouldn't have to do any DIY. Just drop the car off and pick it up a week later.
- Not a huge amount of power.
Boosted:
+ About 100bhp more than the N/A option.
+ Big grin factor and pub bragging rights.
- Questionable reliability.
- A fair bit of work to do myself, like fitting the bock guard and girdle, and of course the turbo and intercooler and stuff.
What do we reckon?

I have a B20B with a B16A head, all stock except for ARP head studs ans i run 11lbs all day with no problems. It's tuned with Crome and makes 324whp on a dynojet. This setup has been on the motor for 30K miles, ant the motor has 45K. No need to sleve the B20 until 400whp and thats the truth these sleeves take a lot of abuse contrary to popular belief.
boost (11-12lbs) for 30k on stock block/head because i dont run it hard all the time, just have it tuned so it wont detonate and you can easily run 350whp stock. You can prevent blowing your **** up just take care of it.
