I have been quoted £1,950 to supply, install / fit 25m^2 worth of wooden flooring in my new property. Does this seem excessive? I personally feel it is about £500 too expensive.

Based on.........?

Get some other quotes and see for yourself.

I just put new wooden flooring in my room and my Dad's exact words were

"Considering you 'click' for a living thats bloody impressive"

You'll feel like a man afterwards! Crack on!

Depends exactly what you are having done, skirtings taken off , doors shaved etc

Usually they price per m^2 so ringing a few other places may give you an idea if their fitting charge is high.

What type of flooring are you getting? That seems a decent price for all in.

Will take the guy 1 - 2 days to fit depending on room type?

If that is inc. VAT you are looking £1625 exc.VAT / £65m2 fitted.

A worth while engineered floor is £35 exc.VAT
Decent Underlay £5 exc.VAT

£25m2 to fit...

Not bad in my opinion if he has a good reputation

Well decent wood flooring should cost no more than £30-£40 per square metre. (Unless it's oak)

As for fitting I have no idea what the going rate is.

It is £37 per sqm for the wood flooring. So it works out around £1000 for materials plus underlay and trim on top. I am still waiting for the quote breakdown to arrive. He just told me the all in price over the phone. It seems a bit expensive to me, around £700 for fitting trim and underlay.

He said it will take less than 1 day to fit it.

Do it yourself, You might learn something. I know im poor at DIY but ive done afew bits and it doesn't hurt to try it (aslong as u don't break it)

I can't do it myself, the flooring area is not square there are some awkward cuts required. I wouldn't make a professional job of it and I am not even going to attempt it. I don't want my living room floor to look substandard.

Which is why you are going to pay a professional to do it, and that's the price for getting it done quickly and well :)
