I did my 500 sq ft apartment for £250 using B&Q Value "Oak effect" Vinyl Plank. It looks stunning and has already proven itself to be pretty durable.

ok heres my quote, that i got and accepted for my house,

this is in London, all skirtings where removed by me, he was going to fit brand new painted skirt from leading DIY store, cost me £200 total

60 m square quikstep engineered flooring £1700
Underlay 4 rollls £30/roll
skirting £200
Labour £800 2days/2 men

total £2820 60m square laid underlaid and skirted, doors plained, with door bars and radiator rings fitted. ;)

or 3 grand including tips for a job well done...thanks gary

Hmmm so this chap is wanting to charge me around £500 to fit 25 sqm, you paid £800 for 60 sqm which seems much more reasonable.

sounds very dear considering you'll be left with a room full of quadrant

Oh right I see, he did mention that they can take the skirtings off but then i will be left with a gap between the wall and the skirting which they will then seal.

If you take the skirting off and then put it back on, you shouldn't have a gap between the skirting and floor, you'll just need to fill the nail holes and tidy up any gap between the skirting and wall.

It gets more complicated if your skirting boards are glued on.

I just bought rings for the radiator pipes from Homebase.

quickstep is cheaper than decent vinyl, not a good comparison

for those in the know, quikstep is one of the best, if not the best in the engineered wood floor market, i paid £28 trade price for it /1.2 square metre(1 pack)

and to be honest, i personaly dont think there is any such thing as 'decent vinyl' its all **** :D

+1 for doing it yourself.

Its easy peasy when you get into the swing of things, the hard bit imo is putting the beading on after. Just remember to let it sit in the room your fitting it for 48 hours before fitting it.

Doing it yourself will save you an absolute fortune and if it is the click fit (no glue) stuff you could take it back up (if you are careful) if you mess it up too badly and get someone in to fit it.
