England vrs Turkey and other (Spoiler Thread)

Much as it pains me to say it, Calamity had an excellent game last night. He showed us all what he is capable of, wandering off to the edge of his box for a through ball which just wasn't going to get there:eek: But the one handed save he made off Nihad at 1-0 was a truly world class one which really kept us in it. Don't think Seaman would have got anywhere near that, what with his 'webbed armpits' keeping his hands below head height at all times:)

And just a quick note of condolence to the unlucky Scots.
I really thought you had turned the corner after 2 fine victories against the vastly underestimated Iceland. Losing an important game due to a rather dodgy penalty is very harsh & no one likes to see that, but don't give up hope, you still have to play our whipping boys (Germany) twice, so your chances of getting through are still very high. Best of luck...;)

Great result :)

What the hell happened at half time tho?
1st half majority of team played like the braindead skill-less foos we've been watching for the last few England games
2nd half came out and played brilliantly.Maybe Sven broke the habit of a lifetime and actually threw a few cups at 'em in the break.
Rooney was unfazed and played very well and deserves to be first on the sheet, and i'd quite like to see him paired with Beattie
or even Heskey rather than Owen.Smith would be another possibility, but i think he may have shot his bolt for the time being as far as England (Sven) is concerned.

When do we have to play in Turkey?
Cos if we're not at war with 'em before that game,we may well be afterwards

p.s.
Something i wondered last night was about Rooneys inclusion.

There is no argument in most peoples mind that Rooney should have been in instead of Heskey, but what was it that made SVEN change his mind and play him?
I'd like to think that it was cos he's worked with him and realized what a great player he is,but i have this cynical streak ;) that had me thinking Svens logic was :-
lose to Turkey with Heskey playing =me lose job
lose to Turkey with Rooney playing =me get whinged at a bit,but keep job

Nice to see Rooney getting the chance all us Everton fans have known he deserves for a while now ;)

Was a good second half but still think Sven should go, he can't pick a team for **** tbh. Only problem is who would you replace him with  :(

The football was good enough last night (well second half IMHO). But three off the ball moments made my day last night...

1) When we got a free kick on the edge of the box and it turned into a bit of a scuffle, Rooney, the demon, walked around and was randomly shoving players! It was magical, blatently trying to wind them up.

2) 2nd goal, that england fan who ran on to the pitch and got infront of the camera and shouted "common"! Probably refelcted the feeling in 50% of the households and 99% of the pubs. Magical stuff again.

3) Finally, the finale, Becks was getting stick near the end, started returning stick, realised that wed won it and just started blowing kisses at the Turkish player!!LOL! "you can kiss my A!$£" Tru captain class!

COMMON ENGLAND!

One thing Rooney showed last night is that he's not afraid to get physical. I loved it in the first half when he tracked back into our half to win the ball, then just shoulder-charged the guy to the deck and strolled away. Shearer called him a bully, and that's definitely a trait he has (in a good way of course).

Assessment:

James - 8 - outta position once, made some quality saves
Neville - 6 - good overlaps but nowt much else.
Ferdinand - 7 - solid in the centre
Campbell - 8 - Better than rio :p
Bridge - 7 -Shaky 1st half, class 2nd
Butt - 7 - played the holding role well overall
Beckham - 8 - fluffed up a number of crosses but ran so much & won so many balls he made up for what he lacked & perfect pen.
Gerrard - 7 - quiet 1st half, deafening 2nd
Scholes - 6.5 - didn't do much but better than Neville
Rooney - 9 - quiet at the start but not his fault, blinding performance when he was able to get the ball. Fantastic
Owen - 6.7 - Made some runs but ultimately futile as no service to him.

Vassell - 7 - Not on for too long but a goal & numerous good runs
Dyer - 6 - WON A PEN :D

Oh & Memph, arse aint a sweary m8 :)

Er Bekham 8 - Gerrard 7 ???

Gerrard was the official MOM in case you missed it. :D

Beckham was not good.

Have to agree it was good to see Rooney's using his strength, it was nice to see when he won that corner he was bumping into everyone and making them move, it riles the opposition and can induce errors. Credit has to go to the ref for playing to the rules of the game, ie shoulderchecking someone is legal! I also thought the ref played very good advantage, and let the game flow very well.

Some refs on the other hand could be poop and blow up every time the players nudge each other.

I do think that today showed up Beckhams weakness though (lack of pace). A lot of times when there was a break on, you need a winger to sprint to the byline and knock the ball in for the strikers, a lot of the time Beckham was easily outpaced and so the ball was held up (though in his defence I think the Turkish players were very quick and mobile), his crossing was very very poor today, but as its usually impeccable Ill let him off :)

Are you joking about the ref Rich? I thought he was very poor at times, giving Turkey free-kicks for what were blatently good tackles, missing an obvious pen, and not telling the defenders to move out of Wayne's way. I mean, how bad does he have to be! ;)

Rooney has been said to be the MOM by all ouside of the game with the benifit of camera viewing :p & yeah I honestly thought Beckham was better. Despite a number of mucked up crosses he was like the heart & sould of the team. He was EVERYWHERE no matter what & he won back the ball so often & set up numerous chances imo he was better than Gerrard who stank up the place for a while before actually showing why he gets in the squad with some quality runs.

Also, I really don't see how Heskay can play now...cannot be justified & Sven said he would have to play Rooney so please god lets us pray :D

Apparently during the match they were trying to wind him up with pinches & questioning his sexuality hence the smooching ;)

Ok, ok he may have made a few dodgy decisions, but honestly I think in general the way he let the game play was pretty good, some refs end up making the game almost turn-based due to the start-stop nature.
