England vs Hungary - When did sportsmen stop playing sport?

Ian Wright was a great footballer (for Arsenal) but he should never, ever be seen or heard on TV or Radio. The guy is a complete imbecile.

Die in the face. The BBC hasn't got anybody else that's sort of "fun", Ian Wright brings a bit of humour to it. Gary Lineker is monotonous, and Alan "WHERE WAS THE MARKING?...." Hansen? Bah....

I agree that the increase in cheating in football is becoming ridiculous.

I can't think of any other sport where cheating is condoned (even encouraged) by players, managers, supporters and commentators.

Video evidence should be examined after each top level game and any player found to have cheated should be banned for at least 3 games and the player fined. Cheating should be discouraged by any means available.

Stan :)

I dont want them to be humourous though, I want them to actually know what they are talking about and analyse the game.

you're insane,

wright's comments make everybody laugh.... nobody really takes him seriously either... a great addition to the pundit team

It should have been a penalty, the challenge was terrible... but Gerrard dived as well, just to make sure he got the penalty.

We need the penalty practice, lets face it... we're gonna be in a shoot out soon :)

Oh come on; he has the vocabulary of an 8 year old and his 'humour' is basically xenophobic cheerleading. I really hope he's run down and killed in the next few days.

Extreme!

In would seem in the modern game, diving is part of the game. If you can successfully pull of a dive you get awarded. If you get it caught you are penalised. Should diving be eliminated completely? Probably.

So you dont believe the replay footage?

He dived to get the pen, simple.

It's a bit like people thinking Alan Shearer never elbowed other players when going for high balls. :o

Was happy for Crouch getting a goal though after all the criticism he was getting in some sections of the England support.

To be honest.. gerrard would probably have gone off injured if he didn't jump out the way and got a penaulty that way anyway.

Saves us another injury, as it was a two footed semi-jump tackle at his ankles.

Ian wright makes me laugh :p

gerrard is always bombing into the box and going to ground. Owen is a bit of lightweight in that area too, we tend to play to win set pieces which is one time in a game where the england team dont look unconfortable. Shame really, but at least we havent got a team of divers like Portugal

Found Wrighty's comments a bit dodgy but what I found worse was how little was said from Hanson and co. about the dive. If that had been Ronaldo or like then all hell would have broken loose. But because it was the scally king himself Gerrard, nothing was said :/

Lee Dixon said it was a dive :p

Yer but there's a difference to saying it was a dive and saying how it's disgracing the game etc etc which is normally said about the regular divers (roben, ronaldo etc). Fair enough it was just a friendly and not the WCF but still...

I'm sorry, but if anybody can deny that it was a dive, get your eyes tested. He was not trying to save himself as at that point it was too late. Check the links I posted. One of those dives was in the champions league final. He is a diver, no question. A great footballer indeed, but also a diver.

Give it a rest already. Gerrard is not the only one in the england team who dived in that game it just gets highlighted because he won a penalty. It mostly smacks of opposing club supporters who dont like Gerrard to me. Lampard, Cole and Beckham all took dives in that game and i wouldnt be suprised if there were more i didnt spot.

Bet none of the complainers in here would be doing the same complaining if it was a world cup winning penalty that had been given......cheering for us not to score? Yeah nice one, just the sort of fans we need backing our team for the world cup.
