England vs The Netherlands & other International Friendlies ** spoilers ** [29th Feb 2012]

3-2 Why did Chelsea let Robben go? Such a class player.

Because they thought they'd got the "new" Robben in Malouda, hahahahahahah.

Seriously though, you would think Mourinho would be able to persuade Robben to stay, big wages at Chelsea, two titles on the bounce but he did go to Real and a lot of European players prefer to live in Spain/Italy/Germany/France than England.

You can't imagine Fergie or most other managers letting a player like him go that easily that quickly for what was a profit but not a monumental fee from Real, does make me wonder if Mourinho was happy to see him go rather than fight to keep him for some reason.

Had he not chased the big pay check he could have played for Fergie given we were negotiating with PSV for him first, alas I think it was due to his injuries that Jose was willing to let him go and for a time it didn't look a big loss, since he's been at Bayern though he's be immense (you don't ever hear about that overrated scarface Ribery anymore whereas Robben is still turning in performances)

Proves that we (unfortunately) need Cole at left back, Baines didn't defend well for the Dutch 2nd and 3rd goals.

Yeah, injuries are a big problem for him, a quick check and his games started per season at Chelsea, Real and Bayern is pretty awful for a modern footballer. 21 starts and subs in his best year at Chelsea, 14/16 in the other two I think. 25 in his second year at Real, can't remember if that is down to injury or not. His record at Bayern is a joke goals to games is incredibly good, games in a season is a bit of a joke.

Still, if he can play half the games in the season and be truly world class in the vast majority of them, especially at that point Chelsea had no threat of FFP, he made a big difference and they were throwing money at MUCH worse players who played more and contributed a heck of a lot less, still seems very odd.

Ribery was just being talked about loads as they were hyping moves in that 2-3 year spell of 50-80mil moves and the press wanted to see another one. He's scored 20 goals once in all competitions, he's probably averaged something like 12-13 goals and similar assist every year. Good, more so because he hasn't played that much, but he's no where near 50goals + a year or 20+ assists. He's a decent winger, but not even a hint he is in Messi/Ronaldo's league.
