English & CL Football [6th - 10th Mar 2010] **spoilers**

WAs just reading some of what Benitez said after the game, when the article mentioned everyone around them had played less, went and checked the table and its starting to look really bad for them. Villa are 3 points down with 3 games in hand now, City are a point ahead with 2 games in hand, but even Everton could get within 4 points with their game in hand and on top of that Brum would only be 2 points behind if they win their two games in hand.

Liverpool went through a mini revival as Brum drew a few games they didn't deserve to and a couple losses, if they can get back to winning ways, and Liverpool continue losing too often Liverpool then they'll be slipping into a fight for 7-9th with Everton and Brum rather than a fight for 4th. Spurs, City and Villa have a chance to pull out a 4-7 point gap between them and Pool, who seem to be getting worse by the game at the moment.

Thing is they really played tonight like there was no point and like everyone wasn't getting on with each other, they'll be past the point where they think they can get 4th, and so attitude wise the way they played might not really improve under Benitez while they have zero faith in him and doing well this season.

I think Wigan are big underachievers tbh, with player's like N'Zogbia and Rodallega they really shouldn't be facing relegation IMO. Liverpool however.... :p

Not only that, when you look at their squad on wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigan_Athletic_F.C.

it would appear we know why Torres was crap, he was actually playing for Wigan.... Nesta must have been on the bench as I didn't spot him :p

Wigan seem to have classic "new team" syndrome, got some decent results at home, scalped some big teams....... and liverpool, and utterly diabolical away from home.

While Bramble is much improved on the one who played at Newcastle, he's still to accident prone, and Caldwell, well thats not really a CB partnership thats rock solid and the best defence to be in a relegation fight with. Though they only really need a couple wins and a draw or two to stay up this year.

They are really lucky Pompie, Hull, Burnley and Wolves are so truly terrible this year.

With Spurs having a game in hand, Man City having 2 games in hand and Aston Villa having 3 games in hand. I think its almost certain now that Liverpool wont finish 4th. Indeed there is even the potential if those teams do well with their games in hand and Liverpool continue like this that Liverpool might not even finish 5th or 6th either.

I think someone at Liverpool needs to take a very very hard long look at the club at all levels and some crucial (and potentially expensive) decisions now have to be made. The train has gone off the rails and you dont put a train back on by simply ploughing ahead and hoping that somewhere down the line the tracks will move back under you.

Liverpool it has to be said, are pretty desparate for Benitez to walk as a matter of pride for him, as in he guarenteed 4th, they'll be praying he walks if he doesn't get it. £20mil to get rid of him, they'd have to sell Gerrard just to have the cash to fire him, and sell Torres and Mascherano to have a fund to buy 4-5 decent players to improve the squad.

Depends how the £20 million works, if he walks of course it will be nothing. If he is pushed then there is always the chance that he would accept the £20 million over a timeframe rather than in one big dollop. Either of those scenarios would make it so that no-one is required to be sold to fund it.

I'm always intrigued the way that Liverpool fans (almost..hopefully) wish that the guy would resign, citing reasons about pride, love for the club etc.

Benitez doesn't love the club the way that fans do, nor to their extent. I mean it's not the amount that e.g. Redknapp sued for etc., it's £20m!!

I really dont get some of our fans, i was watching lfc tv last night this is anfield and some other forums people commenting Gerrard needs to be cashed i on? I mean come on get a grip he is having a bad season thats clear for us all to see however he has done and given so much to the club and is a world class player to lose him would be insane.

I do however think something needs to change and im all for managers to get fair time and chances but rafa has had plenty saying that team out last night should have done a dam sight better job than they did and its the players fault if they dont perform on the pitch.

Im glad rafa didnt make excuses either for a change.

He's single handedly guided Liverpool to most of their triumphs in the years he's been playing and now he's had a poor season hampered with injuries you want shot of him? Unbelievably harsh on him, especially as the just about every other player is just as bad at the moment.

Thats ok...id love to see him at Arsenal next yr...wont happen but would be nice:)

You do make some odd posts considering you actually watch Arsenal games. Diaby has been amazing this season!

LOL sense of humour failure there fella...i was joking about Diaby...hes been pretty decent this season but nowhere amazing imo.

;) I knew you were joking just didn't think Diaby should be in the joke, he's improved so much

Come on very well this season, I used to cringe when I saw him on the teamsheet but now he's actually someone who I'd encourage to play as many minutes as possible. He doesn't give the ball away very often, he's got good quick feet for a big man and he can beat defenders. Not a bad shot either although he doesn't really get too many chances. Since the double he scored against Portsmouth he's had a couple of shaky games but steadily improved very much, in my opinion.

We'll give Berbatov to Arsenal for Fabregas, seems fair to me. He'd blend in no problems at all, fancy one touch passing that doesn't lead to a lot. :p

All the players just seem to be growing little by little.

Diaby's biggest issue was horrendous inconsistency last season, one match he was man of the match by a long way, the next match he was the worst player on the field. imo he's levelled that out now and is consistently one of the better players offensively and defensively, obviously he has the odd quiet game but overall I'm extremely encouraged by him, he has so much potential and is so so effective when it's his day. Practically unstoppable as his legs are just too big
