Bendtner was worse tonight overall than at Burnley, but we had less fluid fast attacks and more players running with the ball largely as thats what Nasri, Arshavin and Rosicky like to do so not surprising. THe ball got in the box less so less chances for Bendtner, but again he was always in the right place, and made good runs dragging the defenders around to free up space for others. He ran across to near post for that Sagna chance, whole defence followed him, Sagna should have done miles better in the box with so much space and time.
Sagna's crossing was very very poor again and that shot was badly taken, but did ok the rest of the game.
Porto are a really quite awful team, though better than Burnley, marginally. The work rate, style of play, link up and constant inteligent defence unsettling runs are great, if we played a little more direct he could have scored more, pretty much scored every chance he had tonight.
Eboue was incredibly effective when he came on, again, drives past people who tend to hack him down, won freekicks which helps us slow a game down and keep the ball upfield, his pace is unbelieveable, no one could stay with him when he broke for the goal and he was some 20 yards deeper than Arshavin when the move started and some 30-35yards deeper than that centre back, great composed finished which is a rarity for him.
Theo, well, he didn't replicate his form form the second half of last game, while many other players did. The reason he's not great is he's shown no ability to put in consistantly good performances. Was quite funny that as the only thing he got right recently was the goal, he tried for an identical goal twice, once with a horribly mi**** shot and one horrible cross, completely ineffective again although he has been showing slightly more willingness to fight shoulder to shoulder while running for a ball, though he doesn't ever win them.
I'd like it if he could play well and consistantly, but again he showed that one good half, preceded by many awful games and a ineffective appearance in the next game really doesn't mean he's turning the corner.
Overall maybe a flattering win, deserved of course but flattering in the opposition are regarded as a far better team than they played like.
Arshavin's twisting run for Bendtner's second and Nasri's superb individual goal would likely just not be possible against better opposition, I think Souness said that and I have to agree.
