English Football [1st - 5th May 2010] **spoilers**

Someone who isn't a stubborn old fool who needs to make excuses for his lack of progress and spending every year.

That doesn't really answer the question. :p

A cardboard cut-out of Mr Motivator.

:D

Hmm, serious answer from me would be one more season for Wenger and if we have exactly the same issues as this season and the past 4 or 5 then I'm going to start questioning the way he is managing the club. He's the most successful manager in our history and he deserves at least another year in my opinion, let's give him the off season to add to our squad and then at the end of next season if we're still in the same position as the past 5 years we can ask the questions. But for ****s sake please buy a goalkeeper and some more defenders.

Hes old and possibly stubborn but hes also made Arsenal into a very rich club...we havent the debts like Utd, Liverpool and Chelski have got...one day those debts are going to come and bite them on the backside..so its not all doom and gloom as hes stated a few weeks ago that he is looking to buy players to strengthen the squad ie Chamakh is coming, on a free i think so thats a done deal but we are also being linked with Hangeland i think from Fulham, LLoris and a few others.

Whether or not we get them is another question entirely but Wenger does have the money to spend...i just hope he does because our defence and GK situation needs sorting out simple as that...our midfield i think is ok as Fab usually plays but hes out and our strikers are ok and with the addition of Chamakh it should get better....knowing our luck Chamakh will end up with a broken leg lol. But Wenger needs to get rid of the deadwood in the club ie Walcott, Diaby, Almunia, Fabianski, Silvestre amongst others need to be got rid of.

I was under the impression that you were still paying off the stadium, hence the lack of spending?

Not exactly.

Hang on a minute, don’t Arsenal have a huge amount of debt to pay off? Yes and no. The astonishing advances on property sales have enabled the club to reduce net debt by circa £160m in the last twelve months to around £175m with the property developments now being essentially debt-free. This represents gross debt of £275m less £100m cash with the remaining debt being for the Emirates stadium, via a mixture of fixed rate and floating rate bonds that are due for final repayment in 2031. Total annual cost to service these loans is £20m (£15m interest and £5m principal reductions). It’s not clear whether it would be possible for Arsenal to pay off this debt early in order to reduce the interest charges, but my guess is that they are in no hurry to do that, as Gazidis has argued that not all debt is bad, “The debt that we’re left with is what I would call ‘healthy debt’ – it’s long term, low rates, very affordable for the club, and it’s effectively a mortgage on our stadium, which generates revenue.”

If you're really interested then there's a very good link here as to the state of our finances.

Wenger has already said the Lloris has no reason to move and that Lyon have no reason to sell him so that's not going to happen. I appreciate what Wenger has done for us and at the moment our debt is small compared to Man U and Chelsea, we have a reported £40Mil available for the summer and have already secured a new striker. Next season is make or brake for him.

So what they're saying is that in terms of the world of AIDS, Arsenal have Good AIDS?

Yes, good AIDS that we have a long time to find a cure for. Over 2 decades in fact. :D

Yes I read those Wenger quotes that said Lloris has no reason to move and that Lyon are a rich club, don't need the money and therefore will probably not be selling but why can't he look for someone else in the meantime if we can't secure his signature? Sure, he may be doing so already and he has said he's got his eye on a few players but won't tell us which ones.

We really, really need a new goalkeeper and if I was manager it would be my number 1 priority in the transfer window. Personally I'd try for Akinfeev or maybe even Steve Mandanda, stupid name but decent keeper.

Akinfeev is more likely to go to United than anywhere else, you might be in with a chance for Lloris though if Lyon will sell him.

Ochoa will be topping a lot of lists after the world cup too.

Yeah, haven't Utd had their eye on Akinfeev for a while now? Great keeper and if I'm not mistaken he's been CSKA's number 1 since the age of 17. :o

Yeah they have, I really really hope they do sign him as he's a superb goalkeeper and very young too.

He's also said he would like to join Utd and he thinks they are a great club, which is a bonus :p

I'd get your facts straight first, Chelsea have no debt:

and any debt we do have in the future is far more secure than the likes of Man Utd, you and Liverpool due to the fact they are interest free loans from our owner.

LOL ok so hes wiped the debt off but making a £44mill yearly loss isnt really good thing is it??....Luckily for Chelski you have Abramovich, without him you wouldnt be making any money or be able to compete in the transfer market....all your debt belongs to him from what i have read.

You would be knee deep in **** if he ever decided to call it a day.

And you want to get your facts straight too...our debts are more than manageable.

I didn't say that your debts weren't manageable anywhere in my post I just said that your debt isn't as secure as ours but Arsenal itself is a very well managed club and their finances are rock solid...It's also gone past the point of worrying about abramovich leaving imo. Anyway I agree a 44 million loss isn't great and we owe a lot to abramovich but we can't be classed in the same boat as Man utd as they are in a position far more volatile than ours with regards their debt and the way their club is financed.

edit - Im still confused as to why anyone thinks Nani will be any more consistant for Utd than he has been this season (even the latter point of this season), even now he has only just outscored Valencia even though he has been in the team 3 seasons longer (and a widely disputed deflected goal against Valencia counts against him)

You're blind then!

Anyone can see the confidence in Nani's play at the moment and if he carries that into next season then we've got one hell of a player on our hands!

He's obviously still a big 'if' but he looks to have finally turned the corner now, even when he had those two great games against Hull & Arsenal he still followed that up with those infuriating games but now as well as assisting goals he's scoring them which is why I've always believed that he could hit the 20 mark for us if he ever got his act together

He's been our match winner two games running now and scored two great goals against Bayern if that's the form he keeps going then he'll be a potential player of the season next year

I think if nothing else the form he's shown in the latter part of this season is enough to keep faith with him for at least 1 more season

he has had runs of a few good games in a row before (including that run that included the cup game where he took Arsenal apart single handedly a few seasons back)

Its not being blind - its being realistic after so many summer/winters of disappointment in his case

Still believe Valencia will become a better player on the right than Nani will ever be (in his overall game incl tracking back, assisting and scoring goals)

Valencia as good as he is will never have that X-Factor that Nani has, you'll never see Valencia do what Nani did against Arsenal likewise that goal against Spurs

That being said it's only good for United to have two players of that quality fighting more or less for the same position; just need Nani to improve his form out on the left

I can't remember Valencia getting any game winning goals really either. Nani's have been pretty damn important this season (bar the final one in the Wigan destruction)

only the factor of 2 - 3 seasons difference in Utd experience to consider here imo before thats happening (and I wager it will actually start happening next season)
