English League Cup Third Round 21-22 September **Spoilers**

good lesson for spurs. only positive was sandro looked ok but lennon is not his usual nimble self, keane (although he scored - though the keeper should have saved it) is poor, pav is poor, BAE is poor, bentley is woeful and our youngsters just couldn't cut it overall.

ONWARDS AND UPWARDS

Agreed. Would have liked to see Hutton get a few minutes at least, but i hope that he has earned a start in our next match because of his performance last weekend.
It's slightly embarrassing to compare some of our youth players to a few that are coming through at Arsenal, though.

I didn't think Sandro was that good. He made some brutal tackles and I think he was lucky not to get a second yellow after his first silly one for chucking the ball away. He made a good start to the game but faded I thought.

He got better as the game went through. But i think he had a similar game to Lansbury. He had a lot of poor tackles that could have easily seen him sent off too.

Probably put it down to playing at a higher level and trying to keep up with the pace of 1st team football i suppose.

Yeah some of the Lansbury tackles could have seen him with a few yellows being picked up, he was a bit rough and needs to calm down a bit. Sandro had a good start though I thought, he looked skillful when he took it up to our corner in the beginning of the game.

True. Overall though, i wasn't too impressed with any of our players. Would have liked to see Giovani get a full game and a chance to put in a good performance.
Thought that he was one of our better players in the 1st half

Loved seeing Bentley fail miserably again.

Purely because the guy was a stereotypical English player of a few years ago. Loud mouthed, arrogant, over paid, a complete ****** who struts about reckoning he's far far better than he really is. Wenger said he had a poor attitude and it's just, that a few years on when Spurs have reached the Champ's League he now barely gets a look in.

I thought he did well later on, but that was more a result of Spurs giving up.

Aye, he seems to be quite lucky in being in the right place at right time on a few occasions now, but does little else all match. He's there when opponents give up. Or when they're very poor or he'll appear at the tail end of a rout. Stats say a few goals and assists but he's really not done well at all when it counts and the game is still nitty gritty at 1-0 or 0-0.

Got to laugh at these things haven't you. Spurs fans should be happy they didn't get beaten by one of the worst sides in League 1!

Brentford beat top of the league and aren't even close to the worst team in league 1, they had a very poor start to the season, couldn't do anything for 3 games, beat Wednesday who were crusing at the top. Brentford change half their team every season due to no money at all, loan players, very cheap new signings etc, etc.

Spurs were dreadful though, 1st half, barely in it, barely in our half, second half, clear offside and an awful keeper put you back in it on the scoresheet but on the pitch Spurs created very very little. Extra time, Spurs weren't to be seen. WHile our first penalty looked dubious(from the behind angle it looked like he may have caught his foot dunno), at that stage we had Gibbs clear through on goal, clearly onside but called offside, that should have been 3-0 after Lansbury penalty, stupid, soft but a penalty non the less, made it 2-0.

Arshavin was good, as he was at the weekend, his passing was all the right idea's, just difficult and a couple yards out and he would have played Chamakh in with a fantastic cross.

Why are we playing Wilshire as a defensive midfielder, with Song or Denilson ahead of him, I quite literally have no idea.

Also Lansbury was pretty terrible, 2-3 long range shots, awful, a couple proper crosses, both awful, a tap in, great run timed well, helped that Ekotto and Bentley made literally no attempt to even look for danger nevermind mark his run. HIs passing throughout was very often off target, overall wasted it way more than he used the ball well.

THe amount of times Wilshire wins the ball or a freekick in his deep role as DM puts to shame Song and his "almost everything he does is a foul" way of playing football.

In regards to Arshavin I think he's got 4 goals in 6 starts, he could have had more if he'd up his workrate. Unfortunately he's a true luxury player, he hardly looks interested at times, he walks around the pitch but then just when we start slagging him off he produces something brilliant, like the assists we saw in the Champions League or a finish like he showed us earlier on. He's an exceptional player when he's interested, it's just as if he prefers to wait until he can actually be arsed before he will do something.

i don't know what redknapp can do other than ship BAE (yes ok he was alright last season but his attitude stinks and his pure refusal to use his right foot as opossed to turning onto his left and play very risky crossfield balls with his left is worrying) keane, pav, bentley and maybe even palacios out and invest because on tonights performance, there's no point in having them as choices.
i still believe bassong is a good player but he is not a leader and being beside king or dawson is when he is at his best. i'd also like hutton of corluka for a while, atleast he gets forward with power and pace.

So Wilshere is better than Song as a DM, yet you don't get why he's being played as a DM? Even though you frequently tell us Song is rubbish as a DM, and you clearly think Wilshere isn't?

Hughes on the Dembele situation:

Fulham were dealt another serious injury worry at the Britannia Stadium on Tuesday night when Mousa Dembele was stretchered from the field of play following a reckless late challenge on the striker by Stoke defender Andy Wilkinson.

Manager Mark Hughes delivered his verdict on the tackle after the game and Fulham must now hope scans on the striker’s injury do not reveal any significant damage.

“We’ll know in the next 24 hours the full extent of Mousa’s injury but if he’s avoided serious injury then he’s a very lucky boy,” Hughes told fulhamfc.com. “We’ll have to wait for it to settle before we can have it scanned.

“When you’re at that stage of the game and your team is leading two-nil there is a certain code that suggests you look after your fellow professionals. Frankly I don’t know what the hell he [Wilkinson] was thinking."

Seriously hope it's not a major injury.

I quite enjoyed that, considering we lost 4-1 to our local rivals thanks to two very soft penalties.

Most of the Spurs fans had buggered off by the time the second half of extra time had started but the hardcore that stayed totally out-sung the 5,000 or so Arsenal fans. Small victories. :)

Having spent 18 years watching Brentford achieve relatively little, tonight was the best football experience I've ever had. So much fun, so much noise. Liverpool or Man Utd away in the next round please, but we'll probably end up with a trip to sunny Swansea...

Yes, is that hard to understand, Wenger won't buy a DM because Song is brilliant, as half this forum seems to think, he thinks he's sooo good, that he let Gilberto(still to this day one of the best DM's around and the best in the WORLD CUP, and the confed cup, etc, etc, and Flamini and Diarra) because Song is soooo good.

Yet when Wenger feels like it he plays a brilliant attacking mostly winger/midfield, in DM over the player he thinks is worldclass in DM, a couple seasons ago he pushed Nasri into that position over his world class DM.

My problem is, if you care to try to comprehend, if we won't buy a world class DM because Song is soo good, why will he play anyone but song in DM at the moment?

Does that really make sense to you? Wilshire is better than Song at DM, he's also MUCH better than Song as an attacking midfielder, so why not play him at attacking midfield and Song at DM, where he's supposed to be great?

Why not, I don't know, get rid of Song if he's not that good, or BUY a ruddy world class DM so we actually have a chance.

Wilshire was great tonight, and good against Sunderland, no, I don't think he'll help stop Chelsea thrash us, Song won't, a world Class DM won't.

Do you think Mourinho would randomly let Lampard play at DM and play Makelele as the playmaker, for ***** and giggles? Do you think Guardiola would just randomly put Messi in at DM for Sergio or Mascherano? Really?

If Wenger trusts Song, then he trusts him, if he doesn't he doesn't, make your mind.

You know we bought SOng as a STRIKER, and he was so crap as a striker we moved him into midfield, he was so crap in midfield we made him a defensive midfielder, he was so crap at DM he became the right back, he was so bad there he became a CB, he was even worse there, so we stuck him at DM again which was just his least useless position. Now we've moved him on from DM again, if he's crap, he's crap, get rid of him and get a replacement in.

Fullham were shocking no presence upfront and no bite in midfield. Murphy was woeful.

Hope Delembe is Ok. Wilko went in too late there totally mistimed it
