English League Cup Third Round 21-22 September **Spoilers**

Best result of the last 20 years! such a fun game and always nice to see Jermaine Beckford missing a penalty

Even on a free, we paid too much money for him. Out of his depth in the premier league which will be effecting his confidence. I'd give him back to Leeds with a note of apology.

Does that really make sense to you? Wilshire is better than Song at DM, he's also MUCH better than Song as an attacking midfielder, so why not play him at attacking midfield and Song at DM, where he's supposed to be great?
Because we have Fabregas, Nasri, Rosicky, Arshavin (occasionally), Ramsey (when he returns), and The Best Player In The World who can also play attacking/box-to-box roles in the squad. Whereas, as you continue to harp on about every time we play, we apparently don't have a decent defensive midfielder. You can't keep saying "he should have signed someone better", because it's to late for that now. With the squad we have, what's the better lineup? One with Song in, or one without him?

If, to use your analogies, Lampard was better than Makelele as a DM, and Chelsea had recently developed a record for a slightly fragile defence, then yeah, I guess I'd understand him being played in that role. Surely making a team is about filling each role with the best player available?

Bear in mind that I'm not actually expressing my opinion on Wilshere's best role here, I'm just picking apart yours. I just don't understand how you can moan at Wenger for playing Song in DM all the time, then in a game where he's replaced by someone you happily recognise as being far better in that role, you still manage to complain. In your eyes, he's damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

i don't know what redknapp can do other than ship BAE (yes ok he was alright last season but his attitude stinks and his pure refusal to use his right foot as opossed to turning onto his left and play very risky crossfield balls with his left is worrying)

BAE is good enough as a squad player, I'm wondering if Bale will go back to left back or if he will stay in midfield, is he an Evra or a Giggs?

keane, pav, bentley and maybe even palacios out and invest because on tonights performance, there's no point in having them as choices.

I thought Palacios was looking a bit better than he has been in that game.
If Keane gets his belief back he is still a good player and Pav is a good 2nd choice player. Bentley had quite a shocker, very little determination or work rate shown meant he had very little affect on the game.

i still believe bassong is a good player but he is not a leader and being beside king or dawson is when he is at his best. i'd also like hutton of corluka for a while, atleast he gets forward with power and pace.

Bassong is certainly one for the future, it would be madness to write him off, I think Kaboul has probably edged ahead of him in the pecking order now though.

I thought Keane, Pav and Lennon all looked eager and willing for you lot last night, even when you'd gone three goals down. It just didn't help that your midfield basically crumbled and they got no service.

I made the mistake of looking at a DM post. I now feel somewhat... irritated?

Does this happen to everyone?

It's best to skip past all his boring essays about Arsenal. He's even started venturing outside of the football forums which is very frustrating. :o

You really do still talk rubbish, you're ignoring ALL logic just to try and attack my viewpoint, you also ignore what actually happens in games, the truth and sanity to make your utterly utterly retarded point.

Firstly Wenger keeps talking up how brilliant Song is, NOT ME, he first dropped Song from DM TWO YEARS AGO for Nasri, so he was flip flopping between "he's the best DM at the club" to "I'd prefer to play an accomplished Attacking midfielder in at DM because Song isn't getting the job done".

Two years ago, 5 transfer windows ago, but don't let that stop you, no it really only just happened and its now too late to get a new DM, 5 windows later, thats logical.

Song is a ruddy horrible attacking midfielder, he played at attacking midfielder, I don't knowm when was it, oh, this weekend, he wasn't dropped he was replaced at DM and pushed further forwards, and he still managed to get sent off.

He was never even close to the top 20 best attacking players at the club, if he's now no better than Wilshire at DM, why is he still on the pitch AT ALL. If he hadn't been, he wouldn't have, I don't know, BEEN SENT OFF at the weekend, we would have finished the game with 11 men, had we had a proper attacking midfielder on instead of Song for the entire 90 minutes we'd have likely won and not given away as many freekicks.

SO you can't see any reason for me to complain, sometimes you do talk utter rubbish.

If Lampard became a better DM than Makelele and the defence had been suffering due to Makelele I would never, in a trillion years put Makelele in an attacking midfield position, he would make a dreadful attacking midfield player, I would DROP the player and replace him with someone else. IF a player is no longer your best DM and was never even close to a good AM, he gets DROPPED not pushed forwards, plays crap and gets sent off.

If he's not good enough to be DM over small attacking midfielders, get rid of him, again, he's had 5 transfer windows since he started trying alternate players, we were monitoring Kompany for the past 4 years, he cost £5mil, he wanted to come to Arsenal, Wenger decided against it, we'd have gained a CB/DM who has size/strength that no one in the team has, on the cheap.

I wouldn't expect West Brom, Stoke or Sunderland to fiddle around with their DM for 3 years, unsure if he's better than your smallest youngest attacking midfielder and not do anything about it, let alone Arsenal with honestly a huge amount of cash available. Ignoring the fact that we should at least be trying some youth DM's and potentials who would cost very little aswell as a top class DM.

I find the suggestion that right now the squad is better with Song in it, laughable, he's now not playing at DM, the squad is most certainly better without him in it, but don't let that stop you.

If Vermaelen stopped being good in defence, would you stick Djourou in, but play Verm in midfield? Really? If Arshavin is sucking on the wings as some people say, would you just try him at DM, or left back? No, really, you'd drop them, but Song, whose horrific going forwards, daft as anything and gave away almost all the fouls against Sunderland, which gave them constant freekicks, which is where all their pressure came from, you'd put him in the squad for the sake of it, even if he's dropped as the DM, I've literally never seen such a stupid suggestion on the football forums.

Everytime before a derby with spurs and arsenal i always find the spuds players talk up there chances that there a bigger club and harry talking a load of nonsence.

All clubs do this, but spurs seem to do it a lot when playing an upcoming arsenal fixture , will they ever learn?

Im an arsenal fan and think its great they do this as it only means wenger does not need to do a team talk for his squad . My mate at work is a spud and even before the match last night he was moaning about harrys kids comments in the paper.

Agreed. I don't think any of them had particularly bad games. I think everyone is forgetting that Spurs lost in extra time with a team lacking match fitness. Caulker (still only 18) and Bassong looked dead on their feet by the end.

Sandro looks like a very, very good prospect though. Can't wait to see him get some more playing time.

hows that?

arsenal may have had a slightly stronger line up but they also had players starting there first games of the season such as fabianski, djourou and lansbury

Haha oh, how precious. Maybe if Stoke weren't a bunch of thugs then you wouldn't be bored of hearing of all the bad, potentially career ending injuries that your players inflict on a frequent basis. But wait! They're just a cash strapped club, doing what they need to do to survive the Premier League. amirite?

Arsenal were awesomeeeeee. Gibbs looks so damn good, in a few years he is going to be Englands left back. Nasri, Denilson and Wilshere bossed the game. What a team performance.

I was pleasantly surprised with Denilson last night, he kept the ball very well and passed very well, he didn't give it away very much last night, if at all. One thing he needs to do is cut out the long shots though, he should shoot from the edge of the box but that 35-40 yard free kick that he tried was just never going to be on target. It's better for the rest of the team if the ball is in the stadium, but I suppose it shows he has confidence in his abilities which is always a great thing for a player to have.

Hahaha brilliant. You whine every time I argue with you about how I misquote you, or fail to understand what you're trying to say, and then you go and build that massive straw man against me.

Tell me where I said that. Tell me where I even suggested that Song should play as an attacking midfielder. In fact, tell me where I expressed a particular opinion on our midfield that even relates to this argument we're having.

Guess what? I didn't. Because the key to defending your point of view isn't to go "WELL YOUR VIEW IS MORE RUBBISH, ESPECIALLY SINCE I MADE IT UP NYAHHH."

I'll put this simply for you again: You've complained that Song is a terrible defensive midfielder. We're now apparently playing a player you rate as better in that role. You're still moaning. Do you not see the hypocrisy?

The reason I said don't moan about the past, is that there's nothing you can do about it. Given that the transfer window is closed, we have to make do with the squad we have. Who's the best DM in our squad DM? Honest question. Who should we be playing there this weekend?

I agree. Song has had the odd dodgy game but he's been a much improved player over the past season or two. He's really emerged as a good defensive midfielder, he didn't have a very good time at Sunderland, but that doesn't make him a bad player.
