English League & European Football [27th Mar - 1st Apr 2010] **spoilers**

why are they not getting booked for all the diving

How about torres? He went to ground claiming everything?

Was probably a red for the tackle, would never have sent babel off (yellow at max).

Commentry is terrible...

*edit* the more i watch, it seems like everyone is just waiting to get a tap and fall over. Really breaks the rhythm.

2-1 FT

Great result considering we were playing a very attacking team away from home and with ten men. Certainly won't be an easy game at Anfield but I'm confident we can progress.

As for Insua his yellow might be a blessing in disguise. We were lucky not to concede at least twice from corners so with the Greek alongside Carragher and Agger moving to left back we should be able to cope in the air better.

Well, regardless of the score I really dont think that Benfica won tonight in footballing ability. Was really more a case that Liverpool committed suicide with Babels hand to face and Carraghers hand to ball.

I really dont see Benfica getting anything from the 2nd leg and think that Liverpool will comfortably win it by 2 or 3 goals at Anfield.

I also think that the referee was absolutely abysmal tonight, he seemed to have very little control of what was going on, was way way too eager to get the yellow card out.

As for the Benfica fans, well surely UEFA has to issue some form of punishment there, I'm also fairly certain its not the first time the Benfica fans have behaved like that. Sure I remember a euro match a few years back where Benfica were fined for their fan behaviour.

Can't say I'm too surprised with the performance of the officials, what should you expect when UEFA appoint the Benfica fans to officiate the game.

With actual officials next week then we'll beat this lot.

In all honesty tombstone,Benfica were by far the better team, they had a ruck of chances in the 1st half, and that was before the sending off. Were very fortunate with the 2-1 tbh.

Ref was shocking, as was our midfield.

You mean to say Liverpool officicals ;)

I dont think they were, prior to the sending off they simply performed as I might expect a home team to and even then they were losing.

Having said that, one persons good performance is another persons bad performance, so its fine that we have different opinions on the quality of Benficas football :)

Porto were incredibly bad for diving in the CL game vs Arsenal, flung themselves everywhere shamelessly, must be their league

**** that, kick them out of the competition! The fans won't care if the club is fined?!

What is Beitez smoking? Babel said it was a 'mistake'. I haven't seen the incident but from what I have read, the red card sounds just. Rafa is subtly trying to say it was the wrong decision
