English League Football [26th Feb - 2nd Mar 2010] **spoilers**

It was still a dangerous tackle. I accept injuries can happen from nothing, but they can also happen when somebody piles through your shin.

You say it like it was a malicious challenge. It was a badly timed tackle. There is a huge difference. Shawcross should have got a booking, no more.

You can't "punish" the player because of the injury from the tackle, you punish him for the actual tackle.

Just read an article, this quote pretty much sums up my feelings.

Shawcross did not tackle Ramsey like that. He did however arrive late and with sufficient abandon to lose any chance of controlling the consequences. The greatest sickness in English football is that we do not recognise the wrong in that.

I've said many times I didn't think it was malicious and I didn't mention anything there about the challenge being on purpose. The actual tackle was late, mistimed, out of control and dangerous. Yes it was a 50-50. But also, Shawcross saw Ramsey, Shawcross knew he wasn't moving his leg out of the way and was going straight through Ramsey, whether he got the ball or not.

What annoys me is the insistence that he's an angel and it wasn't on purpose. That doesn't matter. Arsenal have a player out for the rest of the season. Time for somebody to take some bloody responsibility for their actions. It's so easy to just say 'he didn't mean it' move on and wait for the next time. We all know this will happen again in the next few years, let's be honest. We also know it'll be a team who 'like to get stuck in to Arsenal'

Some quotes from Fuller.

"The Britannia is like a fortress and if we play to our strengths I don't think Arsenal can deal with the aggressive play.

"It's been proved in the past that Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers have roughed them up and tried to bully them.

"We can also be rough and aggressive when we need to, but we have quality too, so we can mix it up."

"Every time [Didier] Drogba roughs them up, Chelsea beat Arsenal. Bolton used to do it under Big Sam - Kevin Davies and all those guys roughed Arsenal up too. We've got to hit them with a bit of aggression"

Seriously, this is football, what chance does a game of football have with one team coming into a game with this attitude? It's awful and only 'accepted' in England

Well done Fuller, and Stoke, you showed you can hit Arsenal with aggression.

Oh for gods sake get off your high horse. I can understand a bit of an over zealous attitude in light of the events of the weekend but you're just being ridiculous now.

The paper this morning showed that Hull are the most fouled team in the league, do you see them whining? of course not.

High horse? Because I don't like to see a leg break? :/

If you can't see the correlation between teams intending to be 'physical' and 'rough Arsenal up' and 3 leg breaks in 5 years, that's fine.

Hull also foul nearly the most in the league, I imagine they make games very scrappy (like they did vs. Arsenal).

Ridiculous for quoting Fuller in the build up to a game where there was a leg break, when he's talking about 'physical' football? I'd say it was very, very relevant.

I don't want sympathy or even for others to understand what this means to Arsenal, you don't care at the end of the day, it's not your midfielder that's leg is in an absolute mess. I just want the leg breaks to stop.

So why haven't Hull had 3 leg breaks? It's JUST BAD LUCK. You're acting like teams specifically go out to injure Arsenal which is just stupid. I don't like to see a leg break, no-one does, that doesn't give you the right to go out on a witch hunt.

I only believe in what I see, and that's every week a different English player or manager saying 'the ONLY way to cope with Arsenal is to get up 'em'. How come Man Utd and Chelsea don't smash in with OTT challenges in the games? Fletcher is Man Utd's dirtiest player and I'd never, ever imagine him going in with a challenge like Shawcross did.

Ok, be immature about it. No skin off my nose.

Against who? Bad tackles :s? I'm not saying anything about Shawcross or his motives, none of us know them and speculation is pointless. I did comment on his previous bad challenges (one on Barry too which could have been a leg breaker last week), but that's fact that he's had a lot of poor challenges, not speculation. He needs to cut out reckless challenges. Most players go a career without breaking a leg, he's 22 and has done 2

Funny how Shawcross has been called up for the England squad...is that a reward for breaking someones leg and potentially cutting short their football career??...was quite surprised about that in all honesty.

He's generally a good defender, he just needs to cut the rash challenges out of his game. I'm sure he will as he grows up a little.

Who elses leg did he break?

It's generally hard to see that in this thread, where ridiculous has gone to a new level.

I don't think anyone doesn't wish Ramsey well and it's a really unfortunate injury to get, at any stage in a career. Hopefully he'll be back to full health and as someone who saw Djibril Cisse break his leg twice, I hope that is the case.

Given that I saw those leg breaks, I can also see how EASY it is for you to break your leg playing football. If anyone has the stomach to watch the first break against Blackburn (and I know not everyone will, understandably), you'll see that it doesn't have to be a reckless challenge for that to be the result.

Shawcross' challenge was late but it wasn't a leg-breaker by its very style. If you watch the tackle again and cut it before the reaction of all the players, you'll see those tackles every week - against Arsenal or anyone else.
