English League Football [8th - 12th May 2010] **spoilers**

Yup, they did deserve it frankly, played better and for me had two players who deserved player of the season awards ahead of Rooney.

Lampard and Drogba effect every game they play in, mostly all game, defensively and offensively while Rooney's drifted in and out all season.

If Drogba was less of a **** or English and any level of **** he would have won the award. Lampard, had maybe the best season overall, another goal, at least 2 assists(was mostly watching the Arsenal game) and was fantastic throughout, yes its only Wigan but those two have performed against ALL the big teams, Rooney's gone missing often against all level of teams.

This season, while a decent finish(though a Pool loss and Everton win would have made it perfect), it was a season of not much quality, of some truely awful teams, where the bottom 8-10 have been largely awful this year and the top half of the table have all managed to have bad runs and more than usual poor games. The league seemed, at almost every position, lower quality than last year.

Though for me, the more offensive nature of the league, even the bottom 3, was better for football than most of the bottom half sitting in a 5-5-0 most of the game trying to kill them, theres a way to go for the less good teams actually getting good at 4-4-2 again.

Its been a season where huge mistakes and too many poor games won the title, rather than massive consistancy. Its hard to complain though, I think thats the reason between two cracking Manchester derbies and a lot of other high scoring games. I'm glad the league seems to have passed its "4-5-1 rules" phase though.

Lol @ the WAG fest lining up for the premier trophy ceremony at Stamford bridge

Yeah, after the Sky commentary team spent most of half time telling us what a baby Drogba was being over the first pen and then I saw the pram coming out on the tunnel camera I half expected Frank to push the Drog round in it on the lap of honour :D
Congrats Chelsea from an Arsenal fan ;)

Well done to Chelsea, thoroughly deserved in my book.:)

Next season will be much harder though, as we will strengthen our squad, as will City and spurs.

Burnley ahead of Spurs? rofl

Roffles indeed....yeh sure dodgy 'arry manager of the year??...getting beat 4-2 by Burnley who are relegated pmsl :D:D...yeh he definitely deserves manager of the year for that lol

Looks like we had a good end to our season..spanking Fulham 4-0...so that seals 3rd place for us...who was it that said we would lose 3rd place?? :p

Ooops and Congrats to Chelski.....well done on making sure the prem title didnt go to Utd for a change:p

I agree with everything you say there except Rooney. Since being moved to a more forward position his play is much much better than last year. If you think he has gone missing it is because other teams have stifled our somewhat inept midfield and he has not been able to get the ball. He has improved his record against better class opposition.

So Rooney scored against Arsenal, Villa, City, Liverpool, Spurs, Birmingham and Blackburn this season leaving only Everton & Chelsea from the top 10 who he didn't score against and he went missing in the big games.....

Not to mention 4 goals against Milan and one against Bayern

DM is posting utter BS shocker

Firstly, congrats to Chelsea. Based on their performance today, and especially at home all season, there's no denying they deserve it, as much as it annoys me to say.

Secondly, i'll kill anyone who says the title is "Back where it belongs". The title is always where it belongs. I'll also kill any one who says Chelsea got 'their' title back. That really irritates me when people say that, for any club.

Thirdly, thank god we had a (near) three horse race for this year. It'll be great to see Arsenal back up and challenging now that it looks like Liverpool might be dropping off. I'm not an Arsenal fan, but I do enjoy watching them play, and I like Wengers approach.

Finally, sell Berba/Foster and the other lay-abouts so we can reclaim our trophy next year.

;)

Lampard had 5 assists I believe :D

LOL, tbh then, that makes him player of the year in my book. In the big victories he's been absolutely immense, people go on about Malouda but its Lampard controlling those games, scoring or assisting before Malouda even gets a look in.

Even in low scoring games he works tirelessly in defence, and helps control games more than Drogba/Rooney do in the tough games they need to gain control in.

If England ever got a REAL Dm in for Lampard to actually take up his role for club England might have a chance. AS it is, Gerrard plays his club role for country, and blows. Lampard plays DM for England and is pretty effective at it.

Yet, I didn't actually mention his inability to score against the top half, did I, I said, Drogba and Lampard WERE BETTER.

Shock horror, someone in posting BS about me posting BS, because of their inability to comprehend.

I didn't say Rooney was crap, I said two players were better, and considering the award I was talking about was PLAYER OF THE YEAR, I think 3rd best shouldn't win it, but hey, thats just me.

If we want to go into stats, well lets see, Drogba full on outscored Rooney, with was it 2-2.5 times the assists?

Rooney 26 goals, 6 assists, no assists against the top half, 9 goals against the top half.

Drogba 29 goals, 13 assists, already, better, quite a lot, 14 goals against the top half, not sure how you could argue that wasn't better, with 6 of his assists against the top half. Scored more against the usual top 4, more assists and frankly puts in a heck of a defensive performance against the top teams in terms of freekicks/corners. He also scored 3 more goals with I think only one penalty scored, vs 3-4 for Rooney.

He quite clearly did better on every scale, more goals, bigger gap excluding penalties, over twice the assists, half of them against the top half, scored more against the top half, and likely won a double while Rooney helped win the joke cup.

For the record, Lampard scored 12 and got 6 assists against the top half, while also doing far more defensive work and , is a damn midfielder. As I said, both were better in the bigger games and had truly awesome seasons. Rooney, while good, scored less, scored less in important games, got less assists.

Hmm, while I think about it Drogba was rested in some of the biggest games, he missed the Villa mauling, the Wolves mauling and the Sunderland mauling, I think his goal tally and assists would have been noticeably higher had he played in those games.
