English League Football ** spoilers ** [11th - 15th September 2010]

FT: 4-1 - Weird match, poor officials. Bolton were good untill the red card. Defence is still pants although squillaci did look decent. Cesc seems to be back and song looks lively as well. Wenger still annoys me, and arshavin needs to step up his game or GTFO!

oh and, Gibbs > Clichy

All over. Toot toot. Job done.

Bolton were in it until the card, though were struggling to create much. The scoreline flatters us, but then, it's not always a certainty you'll win against ten men, so we did well to stick it to them when they were down.

Despite the card they were poor defensively. They had a player send off but Coyle made the substitution he wanted and he could have chosen to strengthen the defence better and just play to try and get a goal from a set piece. They were very poor defensively and just because one of their first choice defenders was sent off that shouldn't be an excuse for a poor defensive showing. Especially when most things came through the middle or the left after the card was shown.

Awful result for the Toon today. What is it about Blackpool?

I had no illusions that we were going to hold onto our unbeaten-at-home record this season but I didn't think we'd lose it to Blackpool. <sigh>.
I was reading before the game that you finished a good thirty points higher than them in the Championship. Considering neither of you have strengthened much, that's a bit of a shocker to lose.

Were they?

I thought they held us off really well in the first half, though that was in part thanks to our misfiring midfield/attack. None of the goals were particularly easy, bar the last one, and we didn't have too many clear-cut chances outside of them. Arshavin screwing up a one-on-one in the first half is all I can really recall right now.

They were one of only four teams to beat us last season but we thumped them 4-1 when they came to St. James.

Seems this time they wanted to win on our soil and we weren't up to the task of stopping them.

I didn't think the scoreline was flattering, Arshavin should have scored a few in the first half and there were plenty of other good chances. No idea how Kevin Davies stayed on the field that head butt was pretty brutal, and he got away with the challenge from behind on Rosicky, but he always seems to get away with stuff. Good performance I suppose, Never felt in doubt and it looked that Arsenal could step it up and create chances if needed. Some of Fabregas' passing today was unbelievably good, he must have created 5 goal scoring opportunities and he barely broke a jog. Class act

Also, hope they show the full 3rd goal on motd later, wasn't there about 30 passes before it?

is that the vela goal? , i heard the build up play was pure class

as for fabregas , his mind is fully on arsenal

Ahh yeah, 4th goal you're right. It was unbelievable, toyed with Bolton for about a minute then Cesc just chipped it over their entire defence.

I immediately thought of (as said above) the Argies goal in the WC 2006 where they splayed it everywhere. Ours wasn't quite as good as that but it's a goal of the month contender at least.

Edit - overall very pleased today that we won Bolton 4-1, after an interlull and beating Blackburn on their own soil.

No Vermaelen today so a new CB partnership with Kevin Davies was always going to be interesting. No Clichy either and Eboue at RB was the most experienced man in our defence. They did well. Bolton didn't have that many chances but we were miles away from our best too. Their sending off was deffo not a straight red, but then Diaby got thudded away right after that which wasn't even carded. Davies too was a bit too fouly as usual, that headbutt should have been carded. The ref didn't have a blinder.

Good to see Rosicky get a full run out, he didn't look to bad, but like Arshavin (who was woeful ..again) he really needs to practice shooting. There's no point in giving those guys chances if they're so inept at putting them away.

Arshavin should have scored about 3 in the first half alone, along with Chamakh who could have had a couple, Fabregas passed instead of shooting on a few occasions too, Rosicky missed a few, no doubt we could have had them dead and buried before the whistle went at the end of the first 45 but we weren't clinical enough. That's why Bolton were still in it, in my opinion. I did say on page one that I think we'd concede due to the new partnership at the back, I think that is probably the only reason why they scored, due to some very sloppy defending. We should have scored many more goals than we did, and that was before the card was even given.

Terrible decision on the card too, I must say. A yellow at worst, although it didn't even look yellow card worthy to me, I'll have to watch the extended highlights later unless they replay the full game on Sky.

Right...good performance but Blackburn were excellent and allardyce did a great job today...a draw isnt bad but we should be finishing these games off when we have so much of the ball and so many chance (Jo :()

Apparently Bolton and Coyle are 'incensed' at the red card. It was two footed, from behind and more or less off the pitch, I thought it was a bit harsh but the ref was fully entitled to send him off

Yes he didn't properly clatter into him but it was certainly a challenge that could have ended very nastily had their legs been inches aside of where they were.

p.s. My view obviously wasn't exactly clear, so this may change having seen a better view
