English League Football ** spoilers ** [13th - 16th August 2010]

zonal marking is fine so long as its been practised over and over again. with man marking, theirs a lot of cheating going on with shirt pulling, etc.

out of the 2 i prefer zonal but its 6 and half a dozen. some like it some hate it, but both of them have their flaws.

the most hated man at corners is dirk kuyt, he stands 1 foot in front of the keeper with both arms spread out wide so the keeper cant do anything. a ball is then placed 4 yards away from the goal line and kuyt heads it in, as the keeper cant work due to being put off by kuyt. i cant see why some defenders and keepers havent gotten a way around this? all the keeper has to do is go around him before the corner is taken and be 3 yards off his line, this way kuyt cant tap it in, chances are it wont make much difference if the keeper is on or slightly off the line, but it will make kuyt's tactic useless. or they should just elbow kuyt in the face when the ball is placed in and say he was too close to them going for the ball. either way he is the most annoying player in the world and needs to be discouraged from doing it in future.
 
Lots of teams put a man near the goal keeper.

You see it every game in the Championship, along with shirt pulling and holding that puts rugby players to shame.

Ref's need to start giving fouls against defenders.
 
Mancini seems to be a big fan of zonal marking at corners. He had 11 players in the final 18 yards of the pitch at every corner against Spurs. It seemed to work, though that kind of tactic obviously doesn't allow for any kind of counter-attack.
 
Almunia - Pile of crap as usual.
Clichy - Dreadful. He was beaten so many times
VT - Good Game, should have headed that ball in the net.
KOS - Played Brilliantly. Pathetic referee for the Red card
Sagna - :( He can't cross at all. Put Eboue at right back.
Wilshere - Played well but not very effective
Diaby - Made some good runs; poor defensively
Eboue - Wish he would stop being an idiot falling over all the time. Rosicky should have started
Arshavin - wasted on the wings :( He needs a central role.
Nasri - Played well but didn't get any good support
Chamakh - Played well but didn't get any good chances. Would like to see him take a long shot

Subs;

Walcott - Completely useless. Please PLEASE PLEASE don't use him centrally.
Rosicky - Made a big impact on our game.
RvP - Struggled to make a impact.

Liverpool were great defensively. If it was any other team I think we would have snatched a couple of goals. I am very happy with a point.
 
Personally I enjoyed Walcott's attempted curler from 30 yards, the fact he thinks he has the ability to pull that off is quite funny. Also the free kick travelling at 15 mph, wide, at Reina's near-post. Lol.

mate what game was you watching, almunia had a good game for his standards , perhaps he should have saved the goal but it was a tight angle and proberly not expecting the shot.

This..Almunia is and has always been a liability for Arsenal...the sooner we get rid of him the better.

Wasnt that impressed with Arsenals performance yesterday...as usual lovely flowing football but FA when it comes to the killer touch in front of the goal and again we will miss out winning any trophies this season.

We were extremely lucky that we ended up with a point, thanks to Reina:p

Hopefully Fabregas will be back next game.

How many flaps.....jesus christ. Always cacking it when Liverpool had a corner because Almunia has no COMMAND. He is a pile of crap. Can't believe anyone can defend him......utter shocking.
 
imho, Almunia just isn't able to cut it at Arsenal.

He's a good keeper, but Arsenal require something better.

I'd have thought a new keeper would have being top of the "must sign" list for Wanger this summer. (there is still time)

Still think they need another center back and a ball winning midfielder :p
