English League Football ** spoilers ** [16th - 19th October 2010]

I very much doubt Rooney's going, but he seems to be going through a remarkably bad patch and doesn't seem to be in much of a rush to get over it. Whenever we see him on the television he has a face like a slapped arse and plays even worse.

He really needs to sort his **** out, because all this hoo-haa is annoying. Either get a grip, get on with the job or get out. Ferguson has brushed aside players who thought they were bigger than the team before (Beckham and Ronaldo springs to mind) and Rooney knows it.

In all likelihood it's probably just posturing to get a better contract deal, he's got nothing to lose really the worst case scenario is he'll end up playing for another big club on a likely better contract.

Man UTD need Rooney more than he needs them but knowing SAF he tends to be quite stubborn in these situations.

Hmmm, third or fourth time today I've heard the line, "Rooney IS bigger than Man Utd."

Considering he's done sweet FA for United this season and considering he doesn't look like he's going to be getting out of his rut anytime soon, I would strongly beg to differ.

If United's problem currently was scoring goals I could maybe understand the issue of Rooney leaving but currently, United are scoring goals and Rooney has nothing to do with it.

This is all of course forgetting that he's a low-life scumbag (See Gerrard, Barton etc), forgetting he has never really fulfilled his massive potential from back in 2002 and forgetting he shows quite clearly no respect for those who follow him (see England Vs Algeria, 2010.)

Don't get me wrong, he's a player which if on form, is extremely useful. But I don't particular get the worries about a guy like him leaving United. He is far from the best player to pull on a United shirt and I'm sure Ferguson will be well aware of that.

I mean if Ronaldo can leave and United can manage to get on okay, Rooney will certainly not cause that much damage.

What United currently lack is a couple of world class midfielders (Scholes on his day, aside.) Berbatov is playing great, Hernandez looks the real deal, Macheda has potential and Owen is there still.

It's all my opinion I grant you but whilst I appreciate Rooney's work over the past few years, I'd hardly go as far to say United will fall apart if he buggers off.

Bigger than Man Utd? Surely not.

I'd agree with that. He seems to be doing you more harm than good at the moment, and I'm sure you'd relish the chance of reinvesting the money made from him. Only problem is finding someone willing to risk the cash on a player who may just turn into a bigger trainwreck, upset the dressing room and still never be as good as he could have been. Between Berba and Hernandez I wouldn't be too worried about letting him go either, but forgive me for saying Stretford is about as close as I EVER want him to get to City. We'll have a tough enough time paying the people we've got without that potentially very expensive paperweight.

Personally I think losing Rooney would be an absolute disaster for United. Sure, he's having a poor run of form but he is a world class player. It seems Madrid don't want him, can only see City trying to buy him and he'd probably go if they offered him their silly wages and he's fallen out with Sir Alex Ferguson. I'd hate to see him hooking up with Tevez at City.

I'm really starting to think Fergie is losing the plot, there's no getting away from the fact that he is an old man.

Anybody who thinks Wayne Rooney is bigger than Manchester United needs their head checking.

There have been players that have tried, and look where they have all ended up..

With the Old Trafford door swinging and hitting their *** on the way out.

EDIT: And we've continued to function, and win a lot of trophies..

My point was Man UTD will have a much harder time replacing Rooney than he will finding another big club, it's not impossible to replace him but it's definitely in their interest to keep him. Rooney appears to be holding all the cards but SAF is a stubborn **** in this situation and will probably let Rooney go just so that Rooney doesn't appear to get one over on him.

You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Which is what Rooney has appeared to have done.

SAF has always protected our players until they bite him, then that is it as far he is concerned.

Around 10 o'clock tonight (8pm UK) they will announce. The fact they are even planning a statement, probably means Rijkaard's going down.

300% better then Roy.
Gogo.

Well Rijkaard has resigned and the reports coming out of Turkey are saying he done it so that he can join Liverpool.

Not sure how true the link to Liverpool is and not sure I'd want him either tbh.

You have a real bee in your bonnet about Nani, I really don't understand it. He has scored 3 goals and got 7 assists in the 8 games so far this season. If he keeps getting the game time he'll only improve. Even when Ferguson was only giving him a few games here and there over the two seasons he was scoring and assisting which is more than I can say for the likes of Carrick and Anderson.

You are totally correct about Anderson - but pretty unfair on Carrick who is majority of the time played as a defensiive player rather than his natural attacking game (as at Spurs)

Nani cant defend for the life of him (and baring in mind our attacking full backs, the winger HAS TO defend)!! Considering his decision making and shots/goals ratio he isnt as good as people make out (and he needs about 10 crosses + for every assist), not to mention the fact that he goes in and out of games more times than the ball goes out of play. He also isnt that creative, anything he does get is mainly through his speed (unlike Ronaldo who was completely unpredictable in a good way with tricks and passing moves etc.....and all the rolling around)

imo Bale is a much better winger already from all around play than Nani will ever be.

I could have sworn not so long ago Maureen was interviewed as saying he Wanted to manage Rooney at one point in his career.....

Dose it matter if we change manager? I feel the team is showing how good we really are. We sell our best players and bring poor ones in. So far i haven't seen an epl team that liverpool can beat, based on current performance. Still think Roy must go, how we dominated Everton is beond me.

I wouldnt really want Rijkaard to be honest, although he is more attacking minded than Roy (who isnt), I am far from convinced that he is of sufficient quality. He's made a right mess in Turkey with Galatasaray and the only other thing he has done of note is with a Barcelona team that frankly won games by itself without even the need for a manager.

I'm sure there are better options out there than Rijkaard.

nani has quick feet and skill typical of a winger. bale has hustle and bustle (as ive stated before).. which is an endearing attribute alright but not great for a winger... think valencia vs nani
