English League Football ** spoilers ** [17th - 21st September 2010]

Song did about elenty billion fouls, the first yellow I can't remember what it was for but he'd deserved one for a long time, I'm fairly sure between the first yellow and end of first half he did another 3-4 fouls, not taking him off was criminal, since day one in the team he's fouled consistantly throughout every game, every single game. He could have gone for persistant fouling and getting two yellows in pretty much every game I've seen him play.

If you see a slowmo of the block/shot/goal scoring genius moment his leg gets knocked around a bit weirdly(though those shots always look odd as the body bends far FAR more than you notice in realtime), i think its just a slightly unnatural movement tweaked a muscle.

Sunderland were the better team start to finish for all but a few moments in the game, I think we (at one stage) had quite a few more shots on target but that was very misrepresentative anyway. THey had several of those dangerous corners/throws were Jones powered a header inches over the bar or something where most of our shots/chances were fairly tame and easily handled, as in a lot of their off target shots were from far more dangerous situations and far closer to really scoring than most of our on target shots.

Thats the main reason I dislike MOTD, almost any game can be twisted into anything you like showing only certain highlights.

Finally someone who watched the match!!!
Even on Sunday Supliment and Goals on Sunday talked all about Arsenal and nothing about Sunderland.

Drives me mad.. even if we consistenly finished 3rd in the table and played almost brazlian style football we still wouldn't get a look in.. I dont know what people dislike so much about our team/area :(

Don't be ridiculous. Chelsea have not had one difficult game so far this season, not even a tricky away game against a top ten side from last season. The "best" team they've played is Stoke (11th last year) and if any team can handle Stoke's usual roughing up it's Chelsea. Other than that, they've played Wigan (16th), West Ham (17th) and two newly promoted teams (and not even the Championship winners). If that's grounds to win the league then, **** me, it's easier than I remember.

Fair enough. I just don't see them losing it after seeing what they have done this season so far. The charity shield defeat doesn't really count as its a glorified friendly.

One thing though, If Cheslea can destroy teams week after week like they have done so far, then maybe the EPL just has too many teams in it.

Couple of things I reckon, the injuries/operations he had I think have taken their toll and I think he came back too quickly from them (kind of a Rob Jones effect). Also I think that he is frankly depressed and on a low, I suspect that deep down he actually wants to/wanted to leave the club as things appeared to be going downhill/backward, a bad personal world cup didnt help with that and now with the whole ownership thing too.. As Berbatov (and Rooney of late) has shown today, strikers generally need to feel good about themselves/future/club to play to their best and I think Torres is a long long way from that.

Thanks for that, I was wondering if it was due to his happiness. Then I'd figure not being fit and a bit unhappy (seeing how happy the rest of the Spanish team are) would have affected his World Cup.

Torres is suffering from playing 3 succesive seasons along with very little summer break.

Same can be said for lots of players and they've not lost form, not an excuse.

He had the one moment of skill this game, where he beat about 4 players :D

Not to mention he got us the penalty and the freekick

I'd say Berbatov had better moments of skill.

United's rash / stupidity won those fouls as much as Torres did.

Summary:
2-0 Good solid performance, a well taken goal by Tevez and he could have had a few more tbh, 3 points is great and will give us confidence going into Chelsea game which despite there steam rolling of everyone we can win.

I don't think that many players have played in the Euro's, Confeds and then World Cup. It is bound to take it's toll
Well the rest of the spain squad? and they are all alright...iniesta and xavi were on fire last year.

There's a small difference between being at Barca in the last 3 years and being at Liverpool. Torres would have suffered less too had he been at Barca

Same can be said for lots of players and they've not lost form, not an excuse.

Hmm maybe. Although when he plays for Spain I would imagine it's a different kind of pressure than at Liverpool. He has a whole raft of players around him on his level and arguably better. At Liverpool, there has been the pressure to be the main goal threat due to formation or lack of goals from other players. He went into the W/C unfit and didn't look sharp at all. No proper pre season to say of and now he i suffering as a result. All imho of course. ;)

Could you not say the same for Villa @ Valencia?

It's not an excuse. I think Tombstone was a lot closer to the truth with him being unhappy and coming back from a few injuries.
