English League Football ** spoilers ** [17th - 21st September 2010]

Interesting analysis by Shearer regarding Liverpool's style of play today. For those not watching MOTD2, Shearer is explaining how isolated Torres was today and how the majority of the team are just playing it square, not moving it forwad and not providing Torres.

Someone posted something along the lines of 'can Poulson not pass it forward'...seems like it is true for the whole team today.

They're generally like that today. There's no really in the midfield who can start taking it past players. They're passing it square for fear of losing possession rather than changing the angles or getting somebody else to have a go. It shows.

Didn't help that (in my opinion) Gerrard was pretty anonymous in open play today, he was alright defensively but certainly didn't support Ladyboi (:p) enough. Also didn't help that Joe Cole was absolute pony.

Just seen the highlights, great goals by Berbatov. Torres is a filthy cheat (I wonder if we would have got a penalty if Berbatov's header had gone wide while Torres was bear hugging him)

While Berbatov had hold of Torres' shirt too? And how exactly did Torres cheat?

The only cheat I saw was Nani.

Carragher? The guy has to be the best fouler in the game! Nani was terrible today though.
It seems Messi's ankle isn't broken but there will be ligament damage.

fouling implies that there was some intention to stop the player in a legitimate way. Bear hugging was cheating, simple as.

If you sole reason for calling Torres a filthy cheat was because he had hold of Berbatov then as I said, Berbatov was holding Torres' shirt in the same incident.

Shirt pulling etc, happens at every single corner so I'd hardly call a player a cheat for doing it.

edit: and fouling doesn't imply intent. There are plenty of fouls that have no intent whatsoever.

I can see him trying to push Torres off him, seems a bit natural when he's trying to bear hug you away from the ball

I certainly don't see bear hugging at every corner, didn't realise that was all cool now:p
