English League Football ** spoilers ** [21st - 23rd August 2010]

Is anyone else a bit concerned by the frequency of 6-0/7-0 scorelines over the last year or so? it seems like the gulf in class between the top few teams and those at the bottom is getting wider and wider. :(

Seems like smaller teams are giving up quicker to me, once one or two go in they just don't seem to care how many more go in.

Last year or so?

The gaps been huge for years. Even if other teams break into the top 4 they usually fail with depth of quality in the squad to play extra games.

The only way to combat that is to have a city billionaire to spend enough money on two complete teams.

People moan when clubs such as everton pack the midfielder and play one up top to try to smother big teams in the hope of nicking a goal from a set piece. Yet when teams don't do that and get smashed everyone laughs.

In non English football news Barcelona have won the Spanish Super Cup. Won 4-0 tonight. 5-3 on aggregate. Messi scored a hat-trick.

Arsenal used to do it quite often, and still do put an absolute shed full past the weaker sides.

Its still only three points at the end of the day.

I think every side should play to win, there isnt that huge a gulf in the physical qualities of the players in each team, its as much a mentality problem or poor management that has half these teams beaten before they even take to the pitch.

Wigan ran that game for the 1st 30 mins or so, easily too.
If you took the Chelsea goals out of the highlights you'd never believe the score, but we did again what we've being doing for a while now which is just score goals whilst not really dominating.
I'm not sure if it's an Italian thing but we just seem to defend stoutly without bothering that the opposition have possession then just attack when we can and score, whatever it is it works

I think it's inevitable when occasionally there is a crap team or two in the league. Blackpool really are this year's Wolves/Swindon Town/Oldham Athletic etc. etc.

Can see the Wigan players getting tired, they are out running the Chelsea players, can see them owning in the 2nd half.

oh look what happened, Martinez is clueless as a manager, if I can see it coming from watching it on a computer how can he not at the game.

Don't worry Cheets. It'll be back to 9-1 next week. :)

Good god no. Least we will score one

Few decent goals for Walcott. Looked far more comfortable in and around the box than he does stuck on the wing.

Edit: That was a blatant second yellow and red for Terry

It's hard. Look at Birmingham City - had millions to spend and finished in the top 10 last season........but were world-class players knocking down the door to sign for us? Hardly.
