I'd argue the site's a bit clunky in terms of UX, especially search and filtering options. That's where I'd like to see improvements, along with the usual scaling to meet demand.

Also if one's partner earns 7 figures per year, there's zero reason not to pay scalper prices and just forget it. It's literally inconsequential money.

Ahhh @jcharnley1984, so you are 1 of the bots that keeps performing stock checks on the site adding on to the thousands of other bots doing the same thing, and then wondering why sites don't perform as well as they used to. Let me just explain something simple, we have cloud flare that filters out most bots when we do product launches, guess how much traffic was legitimate traffic for this launch according to cloud flare?

yes it was 3%
Whats funny it bot scalping does not really work on our site we have like 3 levels of protection against it, but we still get pinged constantly by people that have bots running to check for incoming stock so they can get on as fast as possible.
I put forward a suggestion that for next launch we wont sell the product itself but will raffle off (for free pre user) tickets within 24 hours of launch, then we pick out of a hat basically who gets the items, so that there is no reason for everyone to spam refresh on a product launch as it wont make a difference, it will mean that everyone gets a fair chance and being unable to order at that time because you were in work or otherwise unable to wont be a problem too. What do you guys think of this suggestion?

I get some of that re: paper launch as nV were, if not there for the taking they could have had a kicking, but surely the manufacturing/supply chain is somewhat borked thanks to the pandemic.

What are you looking to even buy? Not a single retailer has stock if you're looking for the 6800/XT AIB models. Not one.

AMD have re-defined paper launch (none at all!) - Nvidia gave them a huge wide open shot and they have failed to show Nvidia up on stock.

Same goes for the AMD Zen 3 CPUs and Nvidia 3080s etc... so get off your high horse. They won't miss your few hundred quid from £50m now will they? :D

honestly if it's low stock / high demand then a raffle is 100% fair.

Once entry per account and find some way to stop people making throwaway accounts for it? If you want to reward customer loyalty then to verify the entry legitimate purchases need to have been made and delivered?

The cloudflare bot protection isnt up to scratch in my opinion and is inconsistance even for general user that isnt running a bot. Plus I havnt pinged your site ever, others yes. If you expose your API that would be helpful hehe jokes

Only a suggestion at the moment but the idea was liked, as for avoiding throw away users it might be harder, though 1 shipping address per user would likely deal with the problem if you have siblings you wanted to buy for then unlucky.

Not the only thing stopping the bots, googles captcha also prevents purchases during launches. If someone has found a way around googles captcha well then we have other issues to worry about too I guess.

Depends of version of captcha you are using the older ones would have been cracked. I not that talented to automatic a bot to purchase before other. I guess I could but only want to know when its in stock

Sounds very sensible.

Auction. But hold a raffle to limit the number of bidders that can take part and get a deposit off them first to ensure they actually want to buy. Losers go on a waiting list.

Minimum 8000 posts to take part

Ah so thats it his bots aren't working because his and all the other bots are DoS'ing the site and he's annoyed because the site can't cope with all the DoS'ing so OCuk needs to build a mega super duper server site that can cope with all the endless DoS'ing without cloudflare... gotcha.

AWS is sooo roburt and scalable. Hosting your site on there will give you hardly any issues at all.

Blackjack like i said I didnt borther setting it up for the Ocuk site, its been said many times they are unlikely to get 6800 xt reference cards back in stock

Just done a quick search there is a npm package call puppeteer that can automatic the captcha progress
