50 or so hours in this game , 30k-50k daily players so i wouldnt say its unplayable.
Im running 7800X3D and a 4070 DLSS balance and most settings also on balance [normal] apart from textures which are on max quality 1440P.
I have it locked to 90 fps but regularly hit 120+ if i unlock framerate.
Just make sure its not optimising shaders as that will give major stutters, for some reason it takes long time in this game to optimise shaders.
I will say it could do with some optimizations but there are plenty of settings in there to tweak.
Hope you get it sorted as its a great game.

Might have to have another go at this - I haven't played it since first release and it didn't really grab me then, which was probably in large part due to me playing it on a server with friends and they got way ahead while I was busy for a couple of days (meaning I couldn't do anything on my own as quest progress was tracked per server, not player - not sure if they've changed that yet)
looks awesome! I played it for a bit very early on and decided to wait for 1.0 and it looks like it won't disappoint!

Have about 50 hours in this mainly from way back , i also parked it then until 1.0, looks great.
Last time i checked in there was what seemed infinite quests,questlines for various NPCs at you base etc and a huge world.
Combat was weak-ish so im hoping they tuned it enough.

I've been waiting for 1.0 to give this a shot, too. Looking forward to trying it tomorrow. Just about wrapped up Control Resonant, so great timing !

I've never played this, so bear with me if this is an idiotic question, but do you have to build in the game, or can you just wander around in single player completing quests, etc.?
Yeah there is a very robust building system and to an extent its compulsary.
For example your NPCs you find via quests come to be part of your base and need shelter etc.
I will be honest with you while playing there have been times i wished i dint have to gather x items then x,y,z items to craft x,y item to progress.
At times i wished it was just an open world exploration RPG without the crafting and building as its so good for just questing and exploring the world but it is what it is and many adore its building and crafting.
I'm not a fan of building in games, mainly because I'm crap at it, but I'll certainly give this a look, and wait for reviews of the initial full release.
AFAIK, mages were nerfed a while back and haven't received much love since, however release is supposed to have fixed that but not looked into it. It's pretty easy to switch class tbh so I wouldn't worry too much, the only thing you really need to do is get new gear as the 'money' isn't hard to come by to respec.
Get the gliding skills wherever they are now, and updraft.
