Epic Games Store now open!

Oh ! I see that Satisfactory (a first/third person full 3d version of Factorio) is also coming on the Epic store, I wonder if that means they will remove it from Steam, as thats a title I've got my eye on when it releases.

could be a massive thing this hope it succeeds. could drive prices for games down and get more games made. all round great deal.

as many as possible should get on this get steam thinking about doing better.

Hopefully drives Steam prices down which can only be a good thing - we all know the deals aren't what they once were.

That said, not interested in any other store. Having to also have Uplay is bad enough.

Most PC gamers have an extensive Steam library, and will see no reason to deviate, unless Epic can offer games at heavily discounted prices. They also need to implement some unique features like the ability to trade games etc. Right now they've opened a store with virtually nothing available, except some indie titles. If they want to genuinely compete, they have to bring out the big guns!

Edit: If it's true that Bethesda will forgo Steam for their future releases, I can see this becoming a trend! Red Dead Redemption 2 will end up being exclusive to Rockstar's Social Club, and every other AAA developer will follow suit with their own launchers.

They really do want to kill PC gaming, having different launchers is annoying, Steam is pretty poor but at least you can have all games on one platform, competition is great but splitting the market too much will kill it. One good thing is if you bought Fallout on their platform and it's the only game on that account you won't lose anything with a chargeback, never chargebacked anything myself but if I got that nylon bag I'd be returning it under false advertisment.

All of these platforms really need amongst other things, a no hassle refund policy like steam has as this will garner trust.

As a gamer I haven't trusted Bethsdada for a long time and I certainly have no plans to install their cleaning client - a refund policy system with no questions asked would instill some trust and change my mind. Of course they'd not go down this road because their games are hardly ever finished so sod that thought.

bishie if you check they are giving away free games for 2019 to lure people in . people dont realize how big a thing this could be for mostly yet. its massive for players. it will end up with us getting more games and cheaper games. competition is great.

I can agree with this. I have read loads of posts where people saying that Subnautica is a superb game but it's not really drawn me in, not enough to buy it and try it out anyway. But with it being given away free by Epic, I wont have a problem to download their launcher (actually already done that) and then get the game in a week. Just because it is free and if I don't like it, I can just uninstall it and their launcher.

Installed the Epic launcher and registered. Time will tell how good it turns out to be, but I'm hopeful!

If they offered a refund policy similar to Steam, then it should be good. But then again, I'm always a bit surprised that GOG hasn't proven more popular....

launcher won't open on my MacBook
Just closes instantly. Very frustrating. I'll have to walk upstairs to PC.

On the face of it competition should be great but in this case with the way Epic seem to be going about it, i.e. the pay money to get exclusive titles route, I'm not sure I see it benefiting consumers much.

The free games gimmick will probably go away after the first 6 months to a year, I think EA did something similar with Origin initially? Sure I guess the developers will get a greater share of each sale there but I don't play Fortnite and have a massive library + friends already on Steam so unless they actually offer better prices + the same or better in terms of refunds I can't see myself bothering with it.

If they provide actual competition rather than just trying to wall off their own exclusive section of the PC market then yes it could be good, if only in that it will force Valve to up their game.

Just wondering what is meant by 'exclusives'. Does this mean you can only play them through the epic launcher, or only actually buy them through that route. If its the latter surely this is really not a good thing?

Maybe that's not the case, but taking 'Hades' as an example (which seems to be their first exclusive), I can't see that available to purchase from anywhere other than the Epic store.

Say what you will about steam, I know it can be pricey and the sales aren't what they once were, but at least you can buy cheap keys elsewhere and activate on steam.
