Epic songs

I think this fits the definition of epic.

Until 6:30 where he talks about being raped (which always cracks me up), after that it's crap.

Auto Rock
Ratts of the Capital
Christmas Steps
Mogwai Fear Satan

I love them. All from the same band.

Sorry but I lost you when you mentioned epic song and Coldplay in the same sentence.

The word 'epic' seems to have lost it's meaning recently, particularly when talking about music.

The Metallica, Nightwish and Lynyrd Skynyrd songs mentioned in this thread are the only ones I would class as epic. Oh, and probably Mogwai.

I'm not a fan so someone who is may want to correct me on this but is this sort of thing not an area where Muse are supposed to excel?

There are very few songs here that I'd possibly class as epic, some are certainly good or even great but not epic. When I think epic I tend to think of something like Greig's In The Hall Of The Mountain King which is certainly fits with the appeal of the crescendo that you seem to be describing in the original post.

Pink Floyd are the definition of 'epic'. This is probably the most obvious example, with an orchestra and that solo at the end.

I challenge anyone to find me anything more epic!

I've heard that someone throwing themselves off a really high cliff sounds kinda similar to Coldplay, I've also heard that if you listen to it for extended periods it will make you want to...

Coming a little left field... haha get it... *cough* never mind...

Leftfield - Song for Life

The opening guitar riff in 'Welcome to the Jungle' by Guns 'N Roses will always be one of the most epic things I have ever heard. Embodiment of a generation.
