Make perfect sense.

Ashworth and Southgate have great working relationship and remind good friends ever since.

I’m sure an email will be pop from Ashworth recommending him soon enough :D

Trying to work out how they avoid fans rioting after the announcement? Hoping that he wins the Euros playing like peak Brazil and proves everyone wrong?
Does anyone at the club care about what the fans think? Match days will still be sold out, people will still buy shirts.

They've not listened to the fans to date, actually, they may have listened recently but it's gone in one ear and out the other.

Of course they do. If the atmosphere at games isn't good then it effects the players. Theres no point giving someone deeply unpopular the managers job and then being shocked when they fail. The players won't respect him. The fans won't give him any time. I just cannot fathom how this wouldn't just be an awful decision from every angle and thats ignoring the fact hes not even a bang average manager.

The new regime would be off to a cracking start if that was their first big move.

How did Southgate become top priority amongst so many other managers they could have tried to get?! Makes a mockery and disrespects ETH. He surely needs to know what to plan for this summer as they may revoke any of his targets.
