Have you tried the export?

I have indeed although it was about a year ago. IIRC it was 8.0%. I rather enjoyed it, a strong and purposeful flavour with a nice crisp finish. I can't seem to find it here though.

but what purpose did it have?

To get me off my **** :D
It's hard to explain. You can tell what the master brewer was aiming for when he was concocting the stuff and he's got it spot on. The 'proper' beer and whisky/whiskey drinkers will know what I'm on about, i.e. the people who drink it for taste and not just to get slashed :p

EDIT: Thanks Liverpool-Lad, just going to order some :D

I only ever drink Guinness when I am out and about, and the best pint I have ever had was in the Gravity bar, atop the Guinness Museum in Dublin :)

But at home

hehe

I hate people like you who post those images of their ale stash. Me wants

The Guinness Factory in Dublin and a nice pint of the stuff whilst enjoying the view. Make sure you get your taster in before you go up there and always remember you can exchange your little token ring thing for a pint of coke if you don't like Guinness.

Can't fault it :)

Guinness is ggggggggggggggggggooooooooooooooooorrrrrgeous.

I'm off to Ireland in the Summer so the Guinness brewery is a must - shame my wife doesn't like it - I'll justhave to drink hers!!

I've always heard that Guinness is better in Ireland - is this true? Does this still stand now that the London factory has closed? (Didn't even realise the london site has closed!)

Guinness and Blackcurrent - WTF?! Dons ban them immediately!! :p

Even though it all comes from Dublin now, Guinness still doesn't travel very well. The further it has to travel, the worse it tastes. It depends on what you're used to as well. Having been brought up on Guinness in Ireland I'm used to the good stuff and sometimes find it hard to drink it in England. Some English people who are used to the Guinness in England actually don't like the stuff in Ireland as it's different to what they're used to.

It depends on the bar you go to as well but I think most people agree that the best Guinness is in Ireland. The best pint I've ever had was in O'Donoghues in Dublin a couple of years ago and at a very close second was Tigh Neachtain's in Galway. When I hit 18 I did a roadtrip with some mates out of school, the aim being to drink at least 5 pints of Guinness in every county of Ireland. We did it and managed a hell of a lot more than 5 pints in some counties :D
I was brought up on Guinness, my dad used to put it in my bottle once a week when I was a baby.
Guinness is a way of life for some of us, sad but true :o

 :D - Actually, I have heard quite a few people do this - though I think it was with stout/Guinness stout rather than the draught stuff.

I suggested this to my wife a while ago, when our daughter was about a year old but a big no-no there!

Yeah, it was the stout. He gave me half a bottle (one of those baby bottles so about 2-300ml?) every Friday night. It did me no harm, in fact I think it did me a lot of good :)
