Escort Cosworth

more like a nissan pulsar GTiR.

The GTIR was/is technologically more advanced than an Escort Cosworth and capable of great things. In the early 90s, those that could afford the car and the insurance were never going to choose an Escort Cosworth over a Nissan Sunny.

Prices of these things is mostly down to emotion over actual performance. For example.

Why should a GTIR be worth a 2K. An Impreza UK turbo worth 3K.

Lancia Integrale EVO1 worth £12K. An Escort Cosworth worth £15K.

On both occasions you could easily argue that the cheaper cars are technically better.

I agree Street, an RS200 would be something very special. One of the few Fords I'd actually want to own.

When I went to see the Merc I posted about the other week the lad had some epic cars in his 'barn' including some mint E28 M5's, Quattro's and best of all, to me, a mint RS2000 Mk2 Custom! Love Escorts, but love the MK1 and MK2 mostly as they are 'of my time'.

Awesome car but I wouldnt want to own one as its not real practical to use as a car.

More of a show vehicle/toy, would get ruined being used normally as well as being paranoid about it being stolen.

15k for a K reg Escort that does 0-60 in about the time it takes an Audi A4 3.0 diesel?

did you just compare a rather epic 90s classic to a modern diesel boremobile?

deary me, not really what its all about is it.

Wow, you totally missed the point on that one. Do I need to spell it out for you or can you work it out yet? :p

I'll give you a clue. The repmobile is boring and diesel, yes?

And quicker than a Cosworth...

...and the technology/R&D/development involved is years apart.

hence the unfair comparison.

so using the same theory... surely all cars from previous generations were crap?

Quite different engines, almost two decades apart too.

A bit of an unfair comparison, the price is not representative of only relative performance either.

What is the bhp/engine on the Audi anyway? Twenty years and a whole litre to just match the performance is how I would look at it.

Glass half full/half empty.

It's not a direct comparison for goodness sake, it's merely a benchmark with which to state 'They were not even that fast'.

Which they were not - compared to its contempories a Subaru Impreza Turbo was faster, a Mitsubishi Evo was faster, a Rover 200 Turbo was faster and in a drag to 100mph the Escort in standard form couldnt even put more than a tenth of a second between it and a not particularly powerful 4 door executive saloon!

Your comparing a what, 2006 audi to a 1993 escort ?

Stage 3 one will kill an e39 m5 for the same price, so on your logic the cosworth is better than an e39 m5 ?

I have owned a 440hp Subaru and a 400hp Sierra cosworth and i would have the sierra anyday over the subaru. Maybe on paper the subaru is quicker but there is something Raw and relentless about the cosworth engine you just do not get elsewhere..

It was an EXAMPLE to illustrate a point! It wasn't a direct comparison. It was merely a throwaway 'Look even a diesel saloon is faster'. Thats it. Nothing more.

Stage 3 one will kill an e39 m5 for the same price

I'm not really interested in discussing modified cars versus standard cars as I feel its utterly pointless, but are you suggesting you can buy a Stage 3 Escort Cosworth for £11k?

Fox, if anyone asked why an old BMW M3 is worth more than a 2 year old model or why an old 1950s Mercedes 300SL is worth more than an 2010 Kia Picanto you'd reel off all sorts of information and hurl neverending abuse for the next 10 years.

Why is a bottle of fizzy french grape juice worth tens of thousands of pounds?
Why is gold worth more than iron?
Why would you rather bone Keira Knightley than Lisa Riley?

This is exactly the sort of thing you rant at others about

You're not stupid, you know exactly the reason they're the price they are.
