They made initial homologation production, although a few more than the min 500 cars. Couple of thousand I think. Then dropped a slightly nuetured engine in and ran a couple thousand more. From 92 - 96. Then they couldn't get the thing to run quiet enough for EU regs. so they ditched it. Afaik.

Either way i'm not sure that matters, be it production or sales volume limited less escort cosworths exist than Imprezas hence a higher asking price.
Look at the Tommi makinen evo prices vs the normal evo, is the TM edition really worth the premium or are you simply paying for the name and colour scheme?
I don't agree with the inflated price of the Escort Cosworth, i wouldn't pay 15k for one, however i think its a fantastic car and i love the looks.
Old cars are always going to be technically eclipsed by new ones, but thats progress for you, for example the E34 M5 looks positively lame now but was the benchmark in its day.
People seem to think some reason for its value is rally pedigree when in reality it failed to who a single championship?
And calm down, I am as entitled to think its value is undeserving as you are to think It's worthy.

First cossy production run was less than that. In total, just over 7k cossies (inc RS) were made and sold worldwide.
Its not 8k, just over 7k. That was split over two production runs (The Cosworth and Cosworth RS), with the first being circa 2.5k.
Try getting it right.

Out on a limb here, but going on the whole "why is it's value justified" vibe, maybe another couple of "reasons" to add to the pot.
1). In a way, Ford never really replaced the roadgoing version did they. The amount of comments i've read over the years clamouring for a Focus RS 4wd...*

I quite like this car, or at least I did, but after reading some of what Fox has said he's quite convinced me that there really is no reason to like this thoughly ordinary car, my misatake. Burn them all.
Just ignore him, a lot do when it comes to his opinions like this.

Having said that though its still one of the cars that would be in my dream garage, In NFS shift I took it over the Focus RS, simply because its a cossie, its got that factor that nobody can explain but everybody understands, the styling is stupid but in a attractive way, its no 0-60 powerhouse but its fast enough.
Id say its appeal is half based on myth, half based on legend and half based on love (and I did that on purpose)
