Escort Cosworth

I agree with Fox's core point here, it's not a £15k car and I've no idea why it commands such a premium.

I wouldn't mind knowing however, how many Cosworths are still on the road. Certainly don't see many down my way.

I can't understand what you mean about Sierra platform and white body?

It's from Wiki but describes it better than I can be bothered to compose:

"Ford developed the car around the chassis and mechanicals of its predecessor, the Sierra Cosworth to accommodate the larger Cosworth engine and transmission, whilst clothing it in Escort body panels to make it resemble the standard Mk V."

For balance, I feel its only fair I give my opinion on the value of a 22B:

LOL WUT?

Thanks.

The same reasons as an Escort Cossie, Delta Integrale etc fetch the money they do I suppose.

The 22B is a pretty special car though, they are basically a bespoke vehicle. But £20k+ is daft money, granted.....

Really? My understanding of the options is this:

- Turbo 2000
- Turbo 2000 with Prodrive Performance Pack (PPP) taking power up to 240bhp.
- Turbo 2000 with Prodrive Handling Pack, consiting of updated/lowered springs/shocks and optional 17" Speedlines.
- Turbo 2000 with both the above packs, called the WR Sport.

I was under the impression the RB5 was simply a Turbo 2000 WR Sport with a badge stuck on, I didn't realise it wasn't even a WR Sport.

The standard RB5 was a standard Turbo 2000 with the body mods, interior, wheels, few other bits like short shifter, but the engine was untouched.

You could then have the WR Sport edition which added the PPP and the larger Japanese STi spoiler (sti V5/6 maybe?) over the normal uk mid level affair.

And then if you wanted the suspension it was just an optional extra on top.

There was an RB5 owners site/register I found a while ago which detailed the models and what you got, was quite good.

A friend used to have a WR sport and it was a lovely car.

Guys I think a lot of people are missing the point, the materials the car is made of are not worth its value, neither is the materials + construction costs, its worth what people want to pay for it, a Lamborghini Reventón costs 32x what a Nissan 370z does and nobody on earth can sensibly argue its 32x the car however its worth it to the people who buy it because that's what they want.

In a similar way the Toyota Supra TT costs more than rivals like the Nissan 300ZX TT or the Mitsibishi GTO TT because it was a "heros" car in the fast and the furious, If somebody in their head believes that the car is something it is very hard to dissuade them.

I personally drive a 1997 Honda Prelude SiR worth about £2-3K however I only paid £800 for it because the garage had taken it in part ex and didn't know how much it was worth so they just sold it as a normal prelude, but because its rare and in high demand people will pay more.

A Escort Cossie is not worth £15k to somebody who isn't willing to pay £15k for it and it never will be, but to somebody who would its worth every penny.

Are Audi diesels under 6 secs to 60, thats impressive :o

Neither do Escort Cosworths

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/235231/ford_focus_rs_v_ford_escort_cosworth.html

which is 0.1 seconds slower than an S-line 3.0 TDI Quattro A4 at 6.1 seconds

http://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/a4/a4-saloon/specifications.html

Even splitting heirs, about 0.1 here and there, its not significantly faster. In the real world it would come down to who got the best start. Both would be 4WD, so a TDI A4 could easily get the jump on you at the lights, especially considering the Escort Cosworths Very Period extensive Turbo lag.

Not bad for a 20 year old car ! And an astra diesel is faster than many a ferrari round a track these days, its as irrelevant as the audi diesel being faster than the cosworth.

I'd like to see the Audi round a track, just looked at VBH take the Escort and Focus RS round the same track, Escort was 1.5 seconds quicker.

What i find amusing is those quoting 0-60 times are usually those who say you can't use it as a true benchmark of a cars performance (which is correct), unless it suits your argument i suppose.

who ever said it was a true benchmark of a cars performance ? ;)

Afaik all we've stated so far is that an Audi Diesel will do it quicker. Which it does. What more you read into that statement is up to you.
