Essential Android Apps

I've been using a dark theme for a few weeks now.

Its very simple to read, but I feel its missing a bit of "sparkle"

I liked the Metal theme in Handcent... however I found it to be quite bloated and took a long time to open on my silly little phone...

For that reason I'm sticking with GoSMS with the Future World theme modded by a mate of mine on XDA to be red rather than blue :)

Will give Handcent another go if it's been 'lightened' at all... what d'you think mrk? does it feel 'lighter' to you? Then again I guess on the SGS2, most things probably load pretty damn fast don't they lol

I've never had a problem with any load time issue son any 3rd party SMS app. Everythign is always instant.

The stock Samsung SMS app has a slight delay on exiting a message back to the thread list though.

Gone back to Handcent now and re-done my previous black/dark theme which now looks better than before. I have used the built in Theme Save option and submitted it to Handcent team and if they approve it then it should be included as a theme in future Handcent versions so keep an eye out :D

What was your theme called? Just installed it and downloading a theme called 'darkness' but the user it was created by isn't anything 'khan' related... or are you secretly 'djdarkknight'?

That's not mine :p

Mine looks like this:

Ok, that looks much better than that 'darkness' one... that one's a bit bland to be honest...

However, I still find handcent to be a bit slow loading and I'm too used to GoSMS to cope with a spur-of-the-moment swap to a different app right now lol... Will probably give HS another 'proper' trial at a later date :)

massive thread, so sorry if already covered, has anyone got sky go working on a desire hd? keeps saying flash player needs updating but I try and Im unable to get it to work.

"This app is incompatible with your Vodafone Samsung GT-I9000"

Hmmm - oh well ... if it's anything like the official Facebook app, it'll be a piece of crap anyway

I like it. Working fine on my OSF/Blade. It won't let you install from the market. All you need to do is 'google facebook messenger apk' and manually find and install it. Works perfectly.

I've uninstalled the original FB app and solely use this for chat now. If I need to do other tasks I just login to the mobile FB site.

Has anyone seen or used the Unlock with Wifi app?

http://lifehacker.com/5829514/unloc...om-tedious-phone-passwords-when-youre-at-home

Seems like a very good idea with some handy other features. Basically when within range of certain selected wifi networks (eg home) when you lock the phone it wont ask you for the password when you unlock. Does other useful things like disable gps when home as well.

Yes, only i'm using the free version which only stores 1 wifi network, and doesn't do the other things, however, that's all i need it to do. Works sweet :D

Sky go doesn't work on Android yet, It uses Silverlight. The Android app will be coming at the end of the year so Sky say

Started using Opera Mobile again and its so much faster than Dolphin Mini. :)

mrk, are you going to post up those settings? I'm still using your old black one you posted. :)

Waiting to see if it gets into the app first as posting the settings manually takes far too long going through every setting.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some nice quality textured wallpapers on android market, such as leather, brushed silver, wood, rubber, cloth, etc? Something in this vain, except these look a bit rubbish

There's some great stuff on deviantart.

Just search for whatever you need. Leather, wood, whatever.

Anyone know a good reliable file manager?

I have tried Astro and Adao but both no longer seem to find files I look for. I mainly use file managers to upload to Dropbox but some files dont appear on the file managers I have used despite the file being definatly saved where I am looking!

Thanks

ES File Explorer will manage files between local, sd, ftp, LAN, bluetooth etc. It's the best option.
