sorry if this has been asked already (this thread is huuuuge to search) are there any SMS apps that wil let me send free txts via wifi if i dont have any credit on my fone ? i dont mind paying an annual sub aslong as its not too expensive

i have wifi at home and free wifi at work so i dont always need to top my PAYG phone up,the problem with apps like whatsapp is that there can be a big time delay on sending/recieving mesages and not all of my m8s have whatspp installed,so i thought a sms app rather than a IM app might be better


so is there anything worth installing ?

Switchme has been updated in the marketplace so that you can choose a profile when you first boot with its own custom login screen. Pretty cool really.

I downloaded the trial version to see if it’s something I would make much use of. Can someone tell me if it’s possible to set it up so that if I turn my phone face down it pauses the music playing on poweramp and when I turn it face up again the music continues. I kind of feel like it’s something it can do but I’m struggling to get it to work.
 
Haven't got tasker installed so i'm just trying to remember..

Change the settings to advanced mode first.

Create a new profile with the state being orientation face down. Make the task as playback stop. Once done, you should be able to click on the task and make an exit state for media playback resume?

Install Go SMS Pro, then use the Go Chat feature... I think that'll do what you want it to do :)

Why not just use email, since I've moved to a smart phone and all of my friends have we just send emails to each other and never have to worry about cost.

Just tried it then, create new profile and have the first state as orientation face down. Then for the action Use media control and cmd as toggle pause.

Then just create the exit command as the same and it works fine :)

yeah there is that problem , is go chat cross platform with blackberrys and iphones ?


email could be a quick solution as pepp77 suggested but id still prefer a sms solution
 
Is there anyway to stop the phone from locking itself? Ideally I'd like to have the phone on my desk and then from time to time I'll just tap the screen and it'll show the home screen. Then I can manually lock the phone by hitting the lock button. Is this possible without rooting?
 
is there an "essential apps" list for all android phones? (admittedly i havent trawled through the hundreds of pages on this thread)

atm i just look at the user reviews and trust to luck.. but then you get apparently equally good apps e.g. dolphin or opera for browser? and then you got different versions of each as well
