question people, threads far too long to read it all, sorry :)

got my desire this AM, is there awidget ir whatever that takes up a homescreen? i only have a tiny link to my gmail at the mo. also, same for facebook? mine is a tiny window about a 3rd of the screen. if i double tap it, it opens up fully though.

What are you after a Gmail widget? The default HTC Email app shows you mail from the HTC Mail client only, I think there are a few that will show you messages from Gmail such as Pure Messaging Widget.

As for facebook, the friendstream widget does a reasonable job of showing friends status/comments etc.

The HTC widgets in SenseUI can add facebook/twitter/email etc just click the "+" and add a widget.

AWD Launcher is now on the Market which emulates FroYo's launcher almost entirely with additonal options. I have just been playing with it and while it's pretty and the app tray scrolls sideways instead of up/down I found the homescreen scrolling less smooth than LauncherPro and also window transitions and animations are gone so you lose the neat animations that Launcher Pro gives.

CLIFFS: Keep LauncherPro as it's the nicest and fastest launcher for Android :)

Also I've not used Google Nav since Google updated to Maps 4.2 and must say it seems much better. Junction numbers are now spoken which I don't recall being spoken before and the GUI has had a few tweaks it seems.

According to 3GWatchDog today I have used 9MB of data including the Google Navigation driving being done with satellite layer enabled so Nav doesn't use that much data at all really.

Google Nav is absolutely awesome. I'm going to fetch the second part of my Brodit Car holder at 4pm so I'll be able to get it all rigged up tonight :D

I just tried that ADW.Launcher, while I like the Froyo look (and can't wait for Froyo :D), it's just horrendously slow  Surely nobody will use it!

Well it has a whole bunch of stars and people squeeling "FULL OF WIN!" in market comments but then again I never rate market comments highly anyway :p

LauncherPro needs all the attention it can get!

It does, it's getting the Glass dock effect, as per my request quite soon at least :D

Though I'll probably just use the default when 2.2 is out, hopefully imminently, I think I'm more excited about that than I was actually getting the phone :( :p

Aye it's your choice, I think it's better but then again I never rated the SenseUI widgets highly to begin with and without them SenseUI is a visually boring launcher with no additional features or use of animated transition capabilities.

HTC SenseUI widgets only work with SenseUI launcher. You need to download another weather widget (of which there are many).

See my sig for the ones I use.

You can... install the weather widgets and mash on a 4x2 widget which looks just like teh HTC one with better forecast details and click customisation.
