Do I really need a anti virus for the s3 or the note 10.1 tablet?

The tablet I'm worried about because the wife mostly uses it..

True, there were dodgy ones (just like there is for every platform), however, iirc they were ones that weren't popular at all and were wanting permission to stuff that it shouldn't have, so technically it is the end users fault for not reading :p

I have installed hundreds (probably close to a thousand) of apps in my 2 years of using android devices and never ran into any problems and this includes installing apps from 3rd party sources/sites.

If installing from the market, users should always read what it requires permission to and the user comments first, so if a game or wallpaper app etc. requires access to contacts, then you don't install.

AV apps only do more harm by slowing the device down and draining battery even quicker.

Cerberus has nonexistant battery life. I've been using it for ages now (never needed to use it for genuine reasons) and it's been excellent.

Every now and then I test the functions on the web panel and it all works :)

Not an app as such, but can anyone recommend a decent android pc suite, that i'll be able to install on my PC, which connects to my phone, and allows me to send text messages, transfer files, make backups etc from my PC, for free?

My Phone Explorer... used to be a Sony Ericsson dedicated suite, but now it works with all Android phone (at least all the ones I've connected to it)...

You can send Texts, has a Calendar editor, Contact editor, File Transfer (to Phone or SD) and allows you to Backup the Whole phone (including apps if you want)...

Connects via USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi..

Also has a Desktop Widget for Win7 (possibly Win8 too).

Plus it's FREEEEEE!! :)
