Was linked earlier in the thread :)
Thanks benjo.

Do I literally just flash it via recovery? or is there more to it?

EDIT: Found it

Play Store needs to be flashed in recovery. Either delete Phonesky.apk or Vending.apk from system or just make sure it’s named Phonesky.apk in system/app first. Also, uninstall updates via system settings/apps to make sure it uninstalls the OTA updated version sitting in data/app.

EDIT2 - Just noticed the dark playstore in that link is a bit fugly lol - it's not the same one I'm after.

Yep looks like it.

What rom are you on by the way?

Somehow got it to work - pulled it from the system apps on FoxHound. Looks so

Had to uninstall updates via manage apps for it to work.

Any chance you can share that apk on Dropbox or something? Looks pretty cool! :)

Was only a matter of time! :p

Galaxy S4 touchwiz air call feature

Motorola droid/X camera app

What doesn't work (fixes being worked on)-

-Double-flick wrist gesture to launch the camera anytime.
-Panorama mode currently crashes. (It seems to be missing a required class, and I'm not sure whether we'd be able to fix it or not. If we can, I'll post an updated APK. For the interested, the error log is here.)
-HDR mode is disabled and cannot be enabled.
-Slow-motion mode is disabled and cannot be enabled.

Not tried either of them yet.

Nexus, which 3rd party camera app do you recommend as you know I'm running AOSP on the S4 and it doesn't do 16:9.

Quite a few good alternatives:

Snap HDR

Camera JB+

The above are pretty similar overall.

I found this app to produce quite good quality photos with indoor lowish lighting conditions:

camera mx

Camera zoom fx

Can't remember which ones do 16.9 as it has been so long since I used them :p But for "overall", snap HDR and camera zoom fx are my preferred camera apps :)

No problem :)

Had a quick go with the moto x camera app, pretty good UI and the way it works, although not many options i.e. no MP settings, 16.9, grid view etc. that I could see of. Unfortunately it is very buggy so can't properly test it.

All of these camera applications wont be tapping into Samsung's TW optimization software will they?
If not then the quality will always be inferior.

Isnt the reason why HTC's and Samsung's camera application very good because of the optimization that happens in the background?

I believe so far, no developer has tapped into those optimizations on any AOSP/AOKP roms. Once they do, i'll be jumping ship from FH....

Unfortunately not.

and yes to the second question.

But these 3rd party camera apps can sometimes produce better quality photos than the stock camera app and most importantly has way more options/features which is where the stock camera app lacks big time.

I am not exactly sure how it works, originally I thought it was tied to not only the camera app but also the sense/touchwiz framework/system but then Benjo posted saying that the touchwiz GS 3 camera app works on AOSP ROMs now and the quality remains the same so not sure why other developers can't do the same for htc devices (main reason for the one series phones is probably because of the dedicated image chip that does a lot of the processing) and gs 4 etc.

I agree with you but the stock TW camera does have a lot of features. I agree the UI is ugly but its feature rich. The only things its missing is slow-mo and photo-sphere.

It must be a little more complicated than ripping things from the stock rom/camera. If it was easy then some one would have torn the GE rom apart and get everything that is needed for AOSP to have the same quality camera as TW. It may not be possible....?!

The GE rom on the S4 should have provided everything for developers but no one has managed to do anything with it at the moment. Cant see many features which have been ported over to AOSP roms.

I meant compared to the stock AOSP camera not the stock touchwiz camera app regarding features. 3rd party apps like camera JB+ have way more features compared to stock AOSP camera app.

I am 90% sure that the GS 4 does have slow motion recording  :p

No idea how or what needs to be done :p

Here is the touchwiz camera app that does work on AOSP based ROMs for only the GS 3:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370869

Might be explained somewhere in there.

I think benjo said the quality is the same as it would be on a touchwiz based ROM so if that is true, then it is only a matter of time till they do the same with the gs 4 etc. Still no idea why it has taken them so long though.......
