Essential Android Apps

Quick question for you all.

I am using Galaxy S (1) and launcher pro I have it set to 5x6 so one screen has a lot of icons for short cuts.
The problem I have is when I try and add a widget to a blank screen I end up with one row across the top that doesn't get used. It looks very annoying! It's fine with my current screen with twitter on just not when I want to add Jorte.

If you've purchased Launcher Pro, try resizing the widget once you've added it :)

Noobish question- Looking at apps there all require varying permissions. Is there any problems with this or I suppose more specifically any permissions that it is a bad idea to allow

I just blindly tap next next install. Works for me ¬_¬

I don't blindly install any old app though :p

Just a little common sense really.

If, say, a calculator app required location permission i would ask myself why the hell does a calculator need to know where i am? A weather app on the other hand probably would need to know your location.

Anyone know a good weather widget? Animated if possible, but just something that looks cool. Free preferably. I've had a look through and most seem to get 1 star ratings on Market Place for either crashing or not reporting the weather/temp correctly.

Thanks! :)

AIX weather widget

Read the summary for each permission and decide if you trust the app.

Lots of apps will require Internet access and "read phone identity and state" to serve up adverts. Some will require coarse network location for ads too (and some fine/GPS location)
'Phone identity and state' is basically your IMEI number, ad providers use it to uniquely identify you.

It's the tradeoff for getting free apps though.

Not like the one I mentioned :(

:p

EDIT:

Don't think pulse news has been mentioned in this thread before

Probably the best news app there is IMO, combine all the feeds into 1 app, very nice UI and plus it is very quick and smooth now compared to what it was like a few months ago :D

For people writing on your wall and stuff?

It used to be only for private messages, friend requests and events
