Getting my first Android phone today. Never had a smartphone before either!

Is there any apps I should really get to start off that are must haves? For usefulness and generally making it work better?

Tools,browsers etc.

cheers.

Go back about 10 pages and there's a few good ones listed. Enjoy the world of Android

an odd request but are there any apps that you can set a password/pin to turn OFF your mobile ? ,ive had a look on google but nothing jumps outs.

This has probably been asked a thousand times now, but I can't find a decent looking football scores/fixtures app.

Had a look through 5 different ones, and whilst they have good features, they're a headache to navigate through because the design is so awful :/

Soccer Live Score is what i use, have been through all of them and found this one to be the best :)

3g watchdog - keep track of your data usage
Boat browser - better than the stock browser
BSplayer - Good video player with gesture controls
Dolphin browser - another alternative browser, really well laid out with some cool features. I tend to use Boat though as it's faster
ES file explorer - the best android file explorer, as well as viewing your sd card you can access your LAN and ftp.
GPS status - show off the notes super fast GPS
Poweramp - THE best music player for android
Quickpic - The stock android gallery is terrible, this is much better
TuneIn radio - online radio

This thread is best for this question I think, on the play store on my phone, there is an empty black box, is something supposed to be there?

Finally set up a working automated wifi on/off toggle in Tasker depending on location, without using gps and cell towers :D

CapturePro seems very good and it has proper widescreen capture too. Is there any way to enable touch focus though?

How does the phone know where you are to run the toggle?

The problem I have with these apps (Tasker/Llama) is that, on the Desire, it fails to perform actions using cell sites when the phone screen is off. It seems to prevent programs from "seeing" cell site changes when the screen is off... As soon as the screen turns back on, the actions all fire :(
