Latitude does this...

Well, actually, if you want a GPS lock, I don't think any app does this without the GPS symbol showing up. But they track without an icon of their own.

As long as your rooted Cerberus will track without gps and its own symbol, the app can also be hidden in the app draw
 
Whatsapp has always been long term free trial, mine expires in Feb 2013 although it was meant to expire in April this year but it auto extended itself before then so it may extend again.

According to my payment info and ive never paid for whatsapp since i downloaded it onto my S3 or any of my other Android handsets. Only time i paid for whatsapp was a couple of yrs ago on my BB and that doesnt expire till 4 Apr 2020.
 
I've had if since it came out for Andrioid. I don't mind paying for it tbh, never had an issue and it does all I want it to
 
Calendar app or calendar widget?

If it's an app you want, then S Planner is perfect IMO (just carp colours lol) if it's a widget you're after, try Pure Grid Calendar for an actual 'calendar' display - or Smooth Calendar for an agenda type widget
