Essential Android Apps

Don't think I ever uninstall an app through the Play Store, I just drag the app icon to the bin in Nova and uninstall :)

You used to be able to delete an installed app from the google play store website (not the on-device app). When you did this, it removed the app completely - including the folders and files it had created on the disk.

When you do it by the method you mentioned above, or if you do it through the devices Settings -> apps -> uninstall (without force closing and clearing data first), it didn't do that.

It's a pain they've hobbled the website's play store functionality.

I hope you root your next phone Nexus. Missing out on far too much coolness.

I don't know, I'll see! :p If it is a quick and **** easy method then I probably will.......

Been kind of tempted to root and put PAC man ROM on my S after reading your posts!

Going to wait and see what the moto X is like before I do anything though.

nexus dude just root your one s, it took me about 20 mins and i'm a complete noob with it :p

e: and then stick trickdroid on it and enjoy sense 5 loveliness

Yeah been pretty damn tempted to put that trickdroid version on but......

Not working:
Bluetooth
FM Radio
WiFi Tether
Zoe and some other Camera features

I use bluetooth and wifi tether (although very rarely but extremely useful when it is needed).

What camera stuff is missing/not working? Have you encountered any annoying niggles i.e. slow downs, battery drain, needing to restart etc.?

Root is mandatory man!

Custom roms a bit less mandatory :D

Really loving AOSP (PAC). Just found another nice feature, CRT off was enabled by default. Turned it off and the screen has a nice subtle fad out animation when the screen turns off. Standard AOSP feature I believe that you don't get on TW/Skinned roms.

you can fix wifi tether with a different kernel iirc (i'm tempted to put on bricked kernel as apparently it's amazing)

i never use BT so it's not an issue for me, but no doubt they'll fix it in a later version.

zoe doesn't work, that's about all i have noticed. it did decide to not save a video i took the other night, but i don't know if that was me just quitting the cam before stopping the video (i was a bit tiddled).

i haven't had a single crash with the phone since putting trickdroid on, it's really stable considering it's beta. the phone feels much quicker, and i gain about 1/3 battery with similar usage to the stock rom. people have reported weird battery rape, but i've yet to see that. using greenify for maps etc definitely helps, but i used it on the stock rom when i originally rooted and it helped a bit, but battery drain was still worse than it is now i'm on TD.

e: and dude, it's sense 5, it looks SO much better and it's got some nice new features, like actually having expanded notifications, and you get rid of that ****ing stupid powersaver icon/notif :p

Yeah the CRT screen of is absolutely amazing! Love just locking my friends n4 screen all the time for this :o :p

Although I could have sworn that mrk has it on his note II and had it on his gs 3 (running touchwiz based roms)?

One big reason for me to root is due to that app which can control app permissions! Tired of seeing games etc. that require access to contacts, GPS etc. when there is no need for it.....

ah ok, will have a read about that kernel then and see....

I could probably get away without bluetooth but again, I never know when I might need it........

What about slow motion recording?

I know I know! Those are three big reasons to do it! :p Fed up with the crappy pinch to zoom in order to expand notifications all because of that stupid power notification taking up the first spot!

Is there an AOSP/stock android theme for trickdroid? A bit like JB domination for the gs4?

just had a look at the cam video options, couldn't find anything for slowmo... which is a shame but can't say i've ever really used it :p

i'm not sure about a aosp theme, everything is stock sense 5 as far as i'm aware.

Misunderstanding :p

CRT Off is enabled by default on PAC Man. I grown a bit bored of it as I've had it since my GS2 using custom roms and JB Dominations.

There's an option to turn it off in the menu settings and when you do you get a different animation which is a nice smooth fade out effect. I think this is stock on AOSP 4.2+4.3 now.

So do it!! :p

+Adaway + TiBackup.

Ah I see! Need a video of this effect! :p

Just been reading this guide but the annoying thing is it wipes the phone too :( Such a PITA having to reinstall things etc. and go through all the settings getting it back to how it was :o

Just discovered Mapfactor Navigator, cracking little app. Allows you to download the maps in advance so you're not dependent on data connections too.

one for the serial rom flashers: ZIPme

What does ZIPme do?
ZIPme creates ZIP packages to install in recovery mode. When you install a new ROM your system is wiped and many times you clear your data. ZIPme can create a package of your apps, data and files you want to install right after a ROM or as a ROM addon. ZIPme programs and signs the update ZIP package so your recovery can install it.

Whats the deal with Instagram and pictures coming out looking like dirt?

The pictures saved to the device are fine but on instagram they look like cak!
