google maps does this for a radius you set, so you can download the whole area in advance

I thought Google Maps does not have offline navigation even if you download the area in advance?

The latest update to Google maps and navigation is horrendous, which is why I've gone looking for n alternative. They've removed all options about how you get prompted with directions, and the screen doesn't dim between instructions anymore, so it massacres your battery life.

I must be the only one that likes the new UI and maps app.
They did say My Maps and offline maps features will be coming

My other half was moaning about this the other day... but somehow I've still got a Navigation app (running maps 7.0.2)

But for those that don't, what's the problem with just opening maps and clicking the navigation icon in the search bar?

The navigation app is still there. If you're running something like Nova or Apex then create an Activities shortcut and under Maps is navigation.

It loads straight into the navigation app without having to go through the normal Maps app first.

It doesn't show up in the app drawer though.

Haven't used Apex in a while, but it's probably got a backup/export feature - Nova does.

I like the new maps UI and don't have a problem with launching navigation through it - it's exactly the same
Open maps, search destination, click navigate

Nova's got a new beta update with some nice new transitions and a few new features.

Apex settings backed up. Just need to do my home screen/UCCW.

Mine shows in the app drawer and I'm on nova

It's odd, I've got Apex on my phone, which it doesn't show up on, but it does on nova on my tablet

Both are running the same version of maps

Great little addon extention for latest google maps that stores all your My Places [you have to manually add them though].
It can be set to search or directly navigate in GMaps at a touch of a button.

On the subject of Nav, They removed the option to swipe to the right and choose to select your contacts. Thats a pain in the ass.

Also, i have a map that i've marked a few places on, on the old maps i could just load it up in the app. cant see a way to do that anymore..... :|
