Essential Android Apps

BeyondPod does this, but does cost. I particularly like how it makes a Smart Playlist once it's downloaded your shows, based on your preferences. I don't think others do this.

I use PocketCast which does both those things. it was the best of the half dozen I tried when looking for a podcast manager

Switched from a S3 to Nexus 5 and I could do with a replacement for the built in wifi timer on the Samsung. Basically want wifi to turn on/off at specific times. Any recommendations?

Does anyone know of an app that can change the default view you get when you press the multi-task/show open apps soft key in standard Android?

Currently it just shows a vertical flow of all your recently used open apps, so only about 3 or four of your last apps are shown at once for hot switching before scrolling is needed.

Contrast this with the multitask view in Sense 5 on the HTC One etc. When you go to switch apps on that you get a fullscreen view which shows your last 9 apps. In my opinion this method is far superior.

Definitely beyond pod. Best app I have used. Use it so much. If happily pay 15£ for it to be honest. Plus it keeps podcasts synced between devices

It is good but I've had big problems getting it to recognise/save podcasts to my SD card. There is a workaround but doesn't work for me.

Yet to find a good alternative.

Anyone tried Roccat Power Grid?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.roccat.powergrid&hl=en_GB

Windows program which is needed http://power-grid.roccat.org/en/Home/

I'm just about to install this on my tablet. :)

To many hoops to jump through and I tried to signup but no :(

Imagine this for a fighting game.. would be awesome to have combos at the touch of a button haha. I know the 3DS has this feature and you can customize it.

Also whats a good text app that doesn't use internet?

I don't find the swype recognition to be as accurate as on previous versions... might clear my dictionary and start fresh, see if that helps :)

I used to love Ultra Keyboard before swiftkey flow and swype arrived officially on Android, but that suffered the same fate, the 'tracing' started ignoring the words it knew and popping up words that weren't even English! More than a little frustrating!

I do like the ability to resize the keys and the new Blackbird theme though :)

I find it's all about training the keyboard. Swype does have more functions to learn and adapt based on social language and your own words though. With SwiftKey I find it tedious how it often doesn't get 2 letter words right which Swype has no problem with. The new update also predicts punctuation, just one more step towards efficient typing I guess.

I still prefer Samsung Note 3 keyboard though with the always active number row but cannot deny Swype for everything else.

I can't move to anything that won't let me swype into a password field lol

I agree that an always active number row would definitely be an improvement but like you say, swype is a brilliant keyboard and really well presented

Don't misunderstand me, I've been a swype user for years, even back on my i5700 I was running djdarkknight's themed swype versions... I love it, nothing compares to it in my opinion, I just wish it wouldn't start forgetting stuff! It's like it's developing alzheimers as it gets older lol
