Essential iPhone Apps

What is it with the App Store and people wanting everything for free (or close to as possible)?
I've paid a lot for apps on the app store - however, I've found that I don't use some of the apps I've already paid for a lot and so I think they're a waste of money... I guess I've just become a little more cautious of what I spend my cash on so that it won't be such a waste :p

From what I've read it's the same as the DS version except:
1) Cheaper
2) worse graphics (partly because of the larger screen and partly because they've slightly moved away from the cell shading
3) suffers from slowdown in busy action scenes (I've heard throwing molotovs in particular is not good)
4) controls are not as good - partly because your hands are in the way and partly because some functions are replicated awkwardly - shooting is supposed to be particularly annoying

Overall, from what I've read, it's still a great game, but if you can get it on the psp or DS instead, do so.

Thanks for that fini.

Took the plunge and bought it and it seems ok so far, it will certainly do for my train journeys. Not bad for £6 when it's a fully fledged DS title for £25

Controls are a little fiddly but the car handling has been made a bit easier to compensate. Only done the first mission so see how shooting and that goes later in the game.

It's cool that it's full 3D, i.e. you can flip your vehicle and do barrel rolls, etc.

Seems quite a fiddly game. Most of the objects on screen are tiny, given how far the view is zoomed out on an iPhone size screen.

Exactly why I haven't fell for this; yet and this.

Oh man, I better not download this I literally will never get any work done ever again!

I am hearing it looks better than the DS and people are still arguing which is better PSP or iphone?

Stolen Quote's :)

"The iPhone version implemented the level of graphics on the DS version with the PSP engine and scaled the overall resolution up. What I mean is that the iPhone version appears to share the same engine and look as the PSP version, ie. more solid 3D polygons, rather than the cel-shaded flatter 2D look of the DS version. At the same time, the PSP version implemented higher quality textures and especially better shadowing and lighting than the DS version and which the iPhone version similarly seems to lack. If people didn't mind the cel-shaded graphics of the DS, the iPhone's major graphical advantage is the higher resolution which makes everything look sharper."

"in some levels I actually like the graphics on the iPhone better than the PSP due to the much higher resolution, as well as better Anti-Aliasing (it seems the edges and lines are much noticeably smoother and textures also tend to look better for the iPhone).

I don't really care much about the minor lighting difference nearly as much as the resolution. Actually the iPhone's lighting isn't bad either. It's pretty good.

I certainly did not expect this much coming from a 3G and I think Rockstar has nailed the graphics and performance compromise very well."

The chatter of the pedestrians seems to be one of the biggest omissions from the iPhone version; you can compile your own radio playlist though, plus the dumpster ***** has been left in. :D:p

Can you tell from this post I am doing well not to have bought this already; my missus has one of those "Daybreakers" restrainers on the ready, for if I go any where near that "Buy App" button.

OMG! A definite buy for anyone i think!

Got it on the DS and just got it now for iPhone. Is very good and runs superbly on the 3G and runs basically the same on the new faster 3GS and iPod Touch.

Pretty stuttery on my 3G. Imagine it would be far more playable on a 3GS.

Try restarting your iPhone if you haven't for a while. Its always a good idea to do that after installing a large App/game. Runs nice and smooth on my 3G. ;)

It is a very good game, haven't got to deep into it but had a blast being chased by the cops today...then walked into a bad neighbourhood. :o

Here is a pic from me:

Oh as for the tire treads...I was doing burnouts up and down the strip. :D

you are prolly reffering to gt5p, which was preety much a tech demo, but yeah few things they didnt include seemed odd.

anyways seems bing might replace google as the defualt search engine,
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100120/tc_nm/us_apple_iphone night be just a pack of lies tho

Not that I use the inbuilt search engine anyway. For some reason I always find myself going straight to google. :)
