Essential Mac Apps - Mac App Store Now Open...

Is there a Recommended Mac Apps thread? Still new to Mac so not too sure whats great or not and how it fares to Windows equivalents.

Dropbox* (Free online storage and sync account)
Coversutra* (Displays the album artwork of any music playing, on the desktop)

That's a pretty comprehensive list of apps EVH, I would agree with almost all of them. Definitely an excellent place to start seeing as most of them are free.

I would add to that list:

Twitter for Mac (Obvious)
Caffeine (Menu Bar icon which forces the monitor to stay on)
Alfred (App launcher which does a load of other stuff as well, has replaced Quicksilver for me)
YouControlTunes (Menu Bar icon which allows you to control iTunes)
Last.Fm Player (Obvious)
Spotify (Obvious)

The mac mini goes one step better on the dock (pure dev):

Parallels 6 (VMs: ubuntu 10.10 and windows 7)
Omnigraffe 5
+ not on the task bar - the other dev apps, stellarium, mac store.

There's only a few apps that I use almost continuously - those are on the taskbar the rest is accessed by cmd+space <type name of app> :D
 
I have Cinch - missed window snapping in Win 7
Adobe Creative Suite (I am a photographer)
Adobe Lightroom My favourite programe in the whole world! ;-)

Reader a Google RSS feed - used it first on iPhone
Chrome - Browser of choice
Burn
Filezilla - FTP Client
Microsoft Office Suite 20011 - including Outlook
