They misplaced a billion last year didn't they? Probably understated as well. Wonder what they lost the year before that, and the year before that.

Sooner we are out the better.

The doomsayers here were probably harping on about how bad it would be if we didn't adopt the Euro. Yes, keeping the pound was a total disaster

One thing I've never understood...

I hear people complain complain complain about all of our governments, leaders and politicians about how corrupt they are, how they don't listen, how evil they are etc.

Then five mins later complain about the EU and wanting our sovereignty back. Do you really think that if UK politicians did get our sovereignty back (tbh I don't think its lost but ill amuse you) they would have a change of heart and start doing things better and more nicely.

Personally I'm happy that the EU keeps our politicians in check. I trust the EU more than our politicians. If getting our sovereignty back means less human rights, less regulations on banks (amongst many other things) ill take the EU

"Mr Brende blatantly lied about Norway accepting all EU directives, giving the impression it had no choice."

"As is a matter of record, Norway has already demonstrated it does not have to be bound by EU directives when it chose to reject the EU’s Third Postal Directive. In fact by October 2012 the EU was complaining because there were over 400 directives Norway had failed to implement."

Autonomousmind gives a good account of his BBC piece here:

I want no fracking in this country.

You'd think that would never happen seeing as how some american states are clearly having more and bigger quakes. some places were never known for quakes before the fracking started but they are now.

We've all probably seen the amount of mud a water pump can move on the surface.
Just imagine the damage happening underground from forcing high pressure water filled with chemicals and sand below the surface does.

It should be no surprise earth quakes happen after and loads of american farmers now have tainted water supplies from those chemicals used

So you'd rather have unelected people in charge as opposed to people we can change every 4 years if they're bad? You do know that if the EU was corrupt, didn't listen and was evil (- they are but I'll amuse you and pretend they aren't) we wouldn't be able to change them at all? That's sort of a benefit of Democracy and why we moved on from having a King or Queen in charge

Are you referring to the European Parliament (elected) or the Council of Ministers (heads of state). You may also mean the European Commission (appointed by the people we trust to run our country)?

Obviously we have much less influence in the European Union, but we COULD (with good negotiations) have the best of both worlds. Leaving the EU - at least in my view - is not the best ship to be in.

I fail to understand why a top 10 global economy needs to be tied to the EU, I don't even know why the EU exists, more government is never a good thing

The original reason for expansion the EU is basically just fear of the Soviet's, isn't it? Before all of that was the European Coal and Steel Community (ie. trade). Certainly, the EU has done many good things - just questionable whether the good outweighs the bad.

This video is a rather good way of showing some of the benefits (yes, it could have happened without it potentially... but let's be realistic ;) )

more government is never a good thing

That's never a not stupid thing to say. That's how it is with keyboard 'libertarians', you hate the govt. but you love the roads you drive on, the police that keeps you safe etc. all of which are only possible because goverments exist. If it's possible to succesfully govern a nation then it is also possible to govern multiple nations. This is the direction of the Western civilisation, whether you people like it or not.

... and the EU isn't more government, it's more centralised government, which is never a good thing.

We are only one of the top liners because we run services for other nations and corporate bodies,, most of the trade is with the EU as we have failed to capitalize fully in China and India, we don't particularly have other choices.

These services depend on us having connections with the EU, which would all but be set alight if we leave and i may imagine that no nation would really care about doing new deals with us as well.

We are NOT an empire.

The EU however is, by and large a new-age sort-of empire, and this makes it impossibly easier to deal with trade wise.

Live with it.

That entirely depends on what is being centralised. Centralising trade arrangements - which is the absolute vast majority of what the EU does - is entirely sensible.

... but the EU isn't just a free trade organisation anymore? It has a common agricultural policy, common foreign policy and what next over the next 20-30 years? a common energy policy?

What are the trade restrictions for EU members because I almost guarantee there will be lots of them preventing trade with people outside of Europe.

lets face it EU is basically going to become one big country we will just be another state of Europe with no freedom
Long term it will probably be a massive fail full of corruption and backstabbing.

basically like the eurovision song contest where everyone votes for their friends
