Euro Truck Simulator 2 worthy of purchase

Bear in mind it's a Beta, not early access. There have been 5 updates this week as SCS squash bugs. The new AI is much improved, but buggy in places - particularly the UK. Oh and check any mods you might be using for updates first.

On the upside the V8 Scania sounds epic. :D

I'm leaving the beta until ProMods stuff is updated for it.. Can't be bothered to start a new career just to see the improvements.

Think I'll wait until 1.9 is out of beta.

Changes do look good.

We have spent considerable time in closed beta testing, and we feel the stability of the build is now very solid. That's why we would like to invite everybody in our fanbase for the final check. Hopefully, if things prove solid under such a scrutiny, the final official retail/Steam update may only be hours or at worst days away from us.

The 1.9 update is one of the largest patches we have ever worked on, hence the long time to wrap it up. Work on the new vehicle AI code has actually started even before ETS2 was released, some year and a half ago, but we gave it all the time it needed to mature. It replaces the entire traffic AI code with a new system. Its far more flexible, and it is paving the way for yet more improvements in the future (country-specific behavior of traffic lights is a much needed planned feature for the future for example).

My framerate has completely bombed with the new update. As in more than halved. Was running at 300% scaling on the graphics but now can only hit 60fps on 100% scaling!

TSM 4.7 released on the 5th.

Personally not tried the Promod stuff yet, but cant at the moment as im nearing south spain :)

Really should get some mods on my ETS2, after a few of the patches i couldnt be bothered to download the updates for them all, really would love an American truck to be honest, the few ive seen look odd, or a Scania T (long nose/torpedo) id like aswell.

Had TSM for a while back then and liked it, see a lot of promods stuff mention so im off to look for that.

So what mods are must haves for this? I'm just getting back into it now that I have a little gaming htpc. Makes a very good sofa game!

I came to ask the same question.

The two main ones I have are the ProMods which adds in Scandinavia and lots of improvements across the board, including more France. Poland Rebuilt, which is similiar to Promods and works well with it.

Other than that I have loads of old mods from earlier versions in my mods folder that must have better alternatives by now..

Has no one else had the framerate problem since the latest patch? It's not playable for me anymore. Without using the scaling option the game is a horrid jaggy mess, but that's the only way to get anywhere close to 60fps. Used to run it at 300% scaling

I keep seeing this thread pop up every week or so and I've finally been tempted to go for a reinstall :D I enjoy reading the first couple of pages abdvseeing everyone s surprise at how good it is!

as far as mods go I have Trucksim Map 4.7 and Brutal Environments 7.1 along with a trailers and cargo pack (jazzycat) and the Reworked AI mod......
I have a few others as well, but can't recall them ....add me to steam (signature) and ill let you know what I run later....

Recently running a New Menu v1.4 mod too.
